Sugar Bowl

Well - a win is a win, isn't it! That Hoke must have a horseshoe up his you know where. How about that OT "non-catch" being overturned? But, more than anything, how about that "bend but not break" defense? Let's not discuss the schedule for 2012; let's just say "WE'RE BACK!!"

Go Blue!!!

Don’t think we really helped the reputation of the B1G with that one though.

But at least we didnt:
throw a pass in our own endzone resulting a safety
get hit for over 500 yards of passing offense by the opposing team
give up a return for a touchdown
spike the ball to end the game whilst being down
Burn timeouts to end up in former situation

So it didn’t go too badly ;D

Ok. This game was about Michigan vs Virginia Tech. I was rooting for Michigan all the way. Why do some Michigan fans insist on making this about MSU? MSU wasn’t playing.

For those of you who were actually focusing on Michigan, kudos to you- I’m glad for your win. I have a lot of senior friends at U of M who had to endear years of you-know-who and I was extremely happy for their win. They deserved it after everything that U of M has been through the last few years. For the fans who are more interested in rubbing things in the Spartans’ faces- well, way to keep it classy and keep the focus on the game at hand. I’m glad we’re that embedded in your psyche.

Here’s to a good season next year! You guys deserve it :).

I was moreso referencing the entire big ten overall doing bad at bowl games. Michigan included.

^ I typed that response before seeing yours. It wasn’t in reference to you.

The win was a gift from Pac-12 officials.

Thank goodness for the Michigan schools and Purdue. They did the Big 10 proud. Overturning the VTech TD in OT was ballsy but the right call. He never had control of the ball. Michigan played poorly, but they made the plays when they mattered.

Michigan is now one of very few universities to have won all four BCS bowls (Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar).

Yeah he did. It wasn’t indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field, IMHO.

Congrats on the win.

UCB, you may be right. I am speaking though my maize and blue goggles! I thought he did not have control until he hit the ground, and since the ground cannot be used to secure possession, it was an incomplete catch. Also, it seems that the the ball was on the sideline when the receiver landed. But as you said, the catch may not have been indisputable, although it was highly questionable. The ref was in a “damned if I do, damned if I don’t” situation.

Either way, Michigan played horribly, particularly against the VTech offense on 3rd and long situations. VTech’s defense played very well. I do not understand why Michigan Defense played agressively on first and second down and then turned to bend-but-don’t-break on third down, especially when considering that they were effective on first and second downs. Still, our two TDs were AWESOME!

“Yeah he did. It wasn’t indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field, IMHO.”

The officials looked at it a looong time and determined that he did not catch the ball. End of story.

At least the B1G had the most teams playing in bowl games – 10. Yeah, the B1G played poorly collectively. Thank goodness for Sparty, I was worried we would end up 0-5 yesterday.

I thought Bucky played well, just unlucky.

“The officials looked at it a looong time and determined that he did not catch the ball. End of story.”

Lol if I were a replay official, from now on, I’ll just make a call and then not tell the crowd for 5 minutes. Then you would be happy.

I think VT got mugged the same way we got mugged for the iowa TD. I actually think VT got it worse because the right call got overturned, while for the iowa game, the wrong call did not get overturned. The fluke fake field goal reception play at the end of the first half should have been flagged for lineman downfield. Our kicker false started on just about every kick, including the aforementioned fluke fake FG and also the game winning FG and it was clear as day even at the dome.

However, for all crying about the calls that went our way, how about that junior hemmingway double move where he got tripped up on a sure TD? He had his man beat. How bout the hold on the outside on the 4th down VT converted? Calls went both ways, but more went Michigan’s way for sure. But we wouldnt be having this conversation if VT actually score TDs instead of FGs, or if they didnt have the 2008/9/10 michigan special team on the field. and they say beamer’s a special team guru…

Being at the dome, it would be generous to say it was 75% filled. Ironically money was the only reason both teams made it to the bowl, and both team failed to remotely fill the dome. There were sections in the upper level where the entire section was empty (on the VT side, but Michigan side wasn’t that much better). Some people were told that they could feel free to move around from their assigned seats so the dome would look more full.

I was emotionally spent by the time the game ended. I’m glad we won but it was an ugly victory. I don’t think there is an “end of story” to the overtime “non-catch” at least for VT fans. We are still talking about the phantom touchdown in the 1979 Rose Bowl. As for the B1G, we can’t forget about the Zook-less Illini cruising to victory in the Fight Hunger bowl against the 6-7 UCLA Pac-12 runner up.

As for Sparty, that has been going on for generations and I doubt it will ever stop and the MSU fans are just as bad as the U-M fans if not worse. Mike Hart and Mark Dantonio are only the poster children for the respective causes. As I have mentioned before, Romani is the classy exception to the rule.

Where is StanfordCS?

“Lol if I were a replay official, from now on, I’ll just make a call and then not tell the crowd for 5 minutes. Then you would be happy.”

That’s basically what they do everytime they replay a close call. In the meantime, any exceptional meals in NOLA?

For indisputable evidence, see the following:

The ball is between Coale’s forearms and possession only becomes firm long after the ball has impacted the ground.

^Great link. Everyone in doubt should read it.

^ I did. I’m still a Doubting Thomas.

This. This irritates me. I am not the exception to the rule. In fact, the RULE is for both sides to have respect. Idiots like those holding up the Spartan Tears signs are the exception to the rule and I wish more people would call out people like that.

If we are referring to the time surrounding the Michigan/MSU game- all bets are off. People are welcome to be as unclassy as they want to be- heck we all know we love the rivarly ;). But when it’s Michigan vs any one else or MSU vs anyone else, keep the other school out of it. And MOST people do.

My experience is the rivalry is like Cubs vs. Sox.
