Suggest a good reach

I'm looking for a good reach school to apply to. I'm not going to apply to Harvard or Yale, I'm looking for a good reach but somewhere that I have at least a shot at.

I'm a current junior at a public school in Minnesota, class size of 680. Class rank isn't used anymore, but I'm giving an educated guess at around 50 of 680.

I'm looking for a small-medium sized school (2,000 to 6,000) Which of the lower ivies would be the best fit? any advice?

Dartmouth, possibly.

Dartmouth is in a rural area, and Brown (fits your description) is in an urban setting.

Any other non-ivies? Dartmouth was probably going to be the reach that I applied to so its good to know that people agree.

^ I wouldn't call Dartmouth a super reach, at least, it's not in the same league of difficulty as HYPS, but it's definitely a reach.

Admissions are very unpredictable at almost all top schools - that's why no one should every consider them safeties/matches. The OP's ACT score puts him at around the 50th percentile (according to CollegeBoard, which also says Dartmouth has a ~15% acceptance rate). I'd say it's a reasonable reach, but again, with admissions on the whole being so uncertain, no one could tell you for sure.

how about some that don't require SAT subject tests?

Bowdoin or Bates?

Duke has a somewhat similar vibe to Dartmouth. It could be a possibility. The small town atmosphere + close proximity to Raleigh is nice.

Also look at maybe Rice?

Dartmouth's acceptance rate is 13.2%.

What about an LAC? How much does location matter to you?

I had the same HLs as you, by the way. :p

Lower Ivies, just lol.

I'm good with LAC's, in fact I prefer them and location is unimportant, I live in the midwest and I would be fine with going anywhere.

Might look at Holy Cross-SAT optional, great school spirit-HC plays many Ivies in the major sports. Holy Cross is only 1 hour from Boston.

Look at Northwestern as well.
