Suggest Colleges For Me

Hey everyone! I could use some help in selecting more colleges to apply to. I'm currently a junior in wisconsin with a 3.7 gpa, 32 act, class rank top 25%. I'm going to be majoring in finance and I would like to attend the best school that I can get in to, preferably in the Midwest. I'm currently planning on applying to Indiana Kelly, uw madison, University of michigan. I think these would all be match/safety schools. If you guys could recommend some more match and reach schools, that would be great!

I’m also a URM and first generation college student, if that matters.

what about you try the SuperMatch feature in the column to the left and then check those suggestions against the their middle 50 SAT records?

oh, and congratulations on doing well in high school. finish strong.

Reaches: Northwestern, Wash U St.Louis, Carnegie Mellon (pittsburgh not midwest but not that far).
Matches-high matches: UT Austin, UIllinois Urbana, Upitt

Take the SuperMatch suggestions and the suggestions here and run the net price calculators on each school’s website to determine what your family can afford. No sense having a list of schools you cannot afford, is there? Don’t take no from your parents. You need to know this info, and so do they–now rather than in April of your senior year when you find out you cannot afford any of the schools to which you’ve been admitted.

thanks for the replies. The reason I asked instead of using the supermatch is because there are some schools that are very easy to get in to but have great business schools. Take Indiana-Bloomington for example. Also, I’m fortunate enough to not have to worry about price when choosing my college.

^^that’s going to be important for schools like WashU that have some reputation for not being need-blind. If you don’t need FA, then say so on the applications to any of these schools. Some of them you will get into without the same qualifications as some other applicants will have to have. CMU is another case in point. Northwestern and UMich may be others. I still think all these schools are reaches for you, but not as much of a reach as for a student with similar resumé and financial need.

Consider point 1 of <a href=“Before you ask which colleges to apply to, please consider - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1621234-before-you-ask-which-colleges-to-apply-to-please-consider-p1.html</a></p>

Is 3.7 weighted or unweighted? How many AP/IB classes will you have by graduation?

No matter what your parents have said, check whether they have 50 or 60k to pay for school each year. If not, this will limit your choices.
Note that you can only borrow $5,500 for freshman year.

GWu got a lot of flak for not being need blind recently, although it was only for the last 5% admits so if you truly have 60k X4 in a college fund it’s worth it to apply.

UWisconsin: apply as soon as the app goes live (Sept 1?) and that makes it a safety for you.
Kelley: you meet the cut off for direct admit. However you’ll be expected to pay in full (about 40k) - they have some little merit awards but they don’t really make a dent in most of the costs. Apply early.
UMich: its admission rate makes it too selective for anyone to consider it anything but a reach.
Due to the WI/MN exchange agreement, you can also apply to Carlson and have an answer before the “big cycle” of admissions starts in earnest.

3.7 is unweighted. I have not taken any APs yet but I will be taking 4 next year. Thanks for your replies again.

I’m surprised Notre Dame hasn’t been mentioned yet. It would be a reach, but definitely possible! They have a top notch business program and are in the midwest. It is a good size and has a great community. However, it also is not for everyone. Even if you aren’t Catholic I would still look into it.

Seconding Notre Dame. Definitely worth a shot for you.
