Hey I have had an easy time picking schools that are matches for me but I don't know what to do about safeties and reaches. I want to go to a big university. My matches are Pitt, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. Here are my stats.

Ranked 16/223 (May change a little by end of this year)
2060 SAT: 740 Math/660 CR/660 Writing (Taking again tomorrow)
Most rigorous course load possible 6+ APs: 3.62 UW GPA 3.90 W GPA
Over 90% on every NYS Regent's Exam
Two Years National Honors Society (Tutoring Chairperson)
Employed for one year
Competitively Sailing for 2 years

I want to stay at a COA around 35k. What schools should I look at for safeties and what schools for reaches. Thanks.

to the OP: great three choices…problem w reaches in that realm is that they all hit close to 50K

safeties: could look at UDel, maybe UMD (although not a safety from NY)…

You don’t state what kind of environment you want (given that Pitt is city, Wisconsin isnt and ohio state isnt)…and fwiw, I think that Ohio State is a safety as well with your stats (and with OOS kids this year getting accepted)

You may want to consider Syracuse as a safety since you might get merit money with your grades that would bring COA close to your target…

to PENS: most, if not all, of the schools you posted are WAY over the 35K threshold put forth by the OP

Assuming that you are a New York resident… OOS publics with a full COA around your limit or less include Virginia Tech, the California State University system (including the Cal Polys but not the University of California system), University of Washington, University of Alabama (which offers [OOS scholarships](http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out_of_state.html) up to full OOS tuition for 3.5GPA with 1400 SAT – if you got such a scholarship, total COA would only be about $13,000 per year).

What about the State University of New York system for your safeties?

James Madison in VA would likely be a safety/ low match for you. The OOS COA is under 30,000. What is your intended major?

UVA and UNC-Chapel Hill would likely be reaches for you. They do meet full need, but I believe both use Profile as well as FAFSA to determine need.
