Suggest Safeties?

So right now I have a list that I'm decently confident about but I only have one safety (which is basically guaranteed). I'd like to add at least 1 or 2 more just in case. My current list:
University of Pennsylvania (ED)
Rice University
Stanford University (uber reach)
Northwestern University
University of Southern California
Washington University in St. Louis
University of Michigan
Vanderbilt University
University of Wisconsin - Madison (in-state safety)

Now, I understand fully that NONE of these schools are guaranteed but my high school's relationship with Madison along with my test scores and GPA mean that it's a pretty good safety for me. Now, onto the meat. I have a 2140 SAT (760 math and 690 on the other two sections) and a 3.8 GPA at a crazy difficult private high school in Wisconsin in lots of AP classes. I'm a National Merit Semi-Finalist and my EC's are decent.

Criteria for the safeties:
-Obviously, for a safety, my test scores should be in the top 25-50% and it should have a pretty high acceptance rate :)
-Must have a football team (hopefully the team is at least decent)
-Should have opportunities for pre-med students (i.e. a hospital or
-Needs to have an engineering program (biomedical engineering if possible but not strictly necessary)
-Warm weather preferable if possible but not necessary
-Money is not an issue at all
-Size isn't an issue and it can be public or private
-If at all possible no application fee would be nice :) but it's not necessary

Right now I've been thinking about Case Western Reserve University. Can anyone suggest others?

Florida State & University of Miami.

Alabama, Georgia Tech, Tulane.

Alabama

Very good pre-med advising. High med school acceptance. (I have a Chemical Engineering son there who is also pre-med).

Brand new mega-sized Science and Engineering Complex with the latest state-of-the-art labs and facilities.

These pics only shows a small part of the new complex which consists of more than 500,000 square feet of new labs and classrooms.

Strong honors college - including the research-based Computer-Based Honors which only admits 40 students per year…

Amazing honors super-suites housing where each student has a private bedroom within a 4 bedroom super suite.

NMFs get free tuition, free housing (including the honors super suites), a laptop computer, study abroad money. Total package worth about $120,000.

As an engineering student, you’d get an additional $2500 per year on top of the above.

And, of course, the Crimson Tide.

The app is quick and easy.

Might look at Holy Cross great pre-med program and the school sponsors internships. HC has an amazing medical alumni network including Nobel Prize winner. Holy Cross has football team that competes against many Ivies-Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth.

The parents nixed Alabama (plus no BME) so I think I’m just gonna go with UT Austin and hope for the best, maybe including Case if I need to. Thanks everyone.

Why did they nix Bama?

As a parent, I think the financial package for high stat kids can’t be beat.

^^^

I agree. And the lack of BME is really not important. no one needs to major in BME as an undergrad, much less as a pre-med student. Majoring in MechE or EE with some bio-med classes does the trick.

However, ironically, some parents are closed-minded about Bama because they think the school is closed-minded. LOL If they just visited, they’d realize that their assumptions are totally wrong.

We were very impressed by Case Western. Definately the feel of a school on the move, with a building reputation – but still possible to consider a “safety” in the positive sense. Not sure about the football, though.

You don’t need any other safeties other than UW.

Glad money is no object since you’ll be full pay at UT. Being full pay might be a nice admission bump, too.

^^^

I think UT is need-blind.

Yes, it’s good that money for undergrad isn’t a concern. BUT…since med school is on the horizon, I would ask my parents if they’re going to pay for THAT as well. If not, then I would ask them if they would help pay for med school IF you get a good merit scholarship for undergrad.

The need may not be considered but being OOS is considered. The U system needs to get $ from OOS to maintain current funding levels. That’s why they moved from top 10% to top 8% with auto-admit to UT.

Unfortunately mom2collegekids hit the nail on the head… they think that 'Bama is too homogeneous for me. And trust me, there’s no reasoning with them. I really like UT though and I feel like I have a pretty good chance since I looked on their website and saw a 43% acceptance rate for OOS and that I’m pretty far above the average SAT score. As for med school… trust me, I’ve tried to get my parents to consider schools with good merit for undergrad so that I can think about their future as well. They have assured me (read: told me straight up) that they’ll be able to pay for that too. I’m incredibly thankful that they’ve been saving up over the years. And I’m hoping that the full-pay will give me a slight boost in UT. Maybe being from Wisconsin will help too since I’m sure they don’t get a whole lot of applicants from here.

too homogeneous for me.

Are you a URM?

In a sense; I’m Indian (Asian). I guess they feel I won’t fit in even though my current high school is 95% white. Go figure.

LOL…

Bama isn’t homogeneous. It’s 81% white. It’s 12% black.
