Suggest some colls

Hey, all..

I am an international student from Nepal. The colleges I have applied so far include two Ivies (a shot in the dark), Colby, Reed, Oberlin, CT, Colorado and similar schools (quite stiff competition), Whitman, Wheaton, U. of Richmond (ideal matches. but honestly, there are no matches for intl stds like me who ask for substantial financial aid)...plz suggest me some colleges with Feb 1 deadline, or beyond...

One of the chief factor is financial aid. I need substantial financial aid. So, I fear that I mayn't be accepted to any colleges mentioned above. Plz also suggests colleges that offer full tuition scholarships (even merit based) to students who have similar stats to mine.

My stats :
TOEFL - 650/677 and TWE - 6.0/6.0
SAT Reasoning: (given two. )
CR: 500, 620
M: 680, 670
W: 630, 610

SAT subject tests:
Math level 2C: 650
Chemistry: 690
Physics: 680

GPA: 3.75/4.0 (unweighted) top 2% of the graduating class (my college doesn't rank)

I have three recommendations: 2 by teachers and one by guidance counselor. These recos should be very good.

Oh dear...that SAT ain't too great

You might get into Richmond but they usually offer admission without aid...the rest are pretty longshots...and btw you should mention how much you are willing to pay

thanks tanveer149...I fear I won't be accepted into any, so admission to Richmond sounds good (but not when it's time to make deposits...haha). I will be able to pay around 6-7 k per year...

dickinson and f&m may b two options

bump hehe!!!!! i dun have any coll to give u

oie let me see ur essay let's see what does it look like!

jasonshah don't get discouraged by the replies you got so far. The criteria for internationals are somewhat different and for good reason:

College admissions people in the US know that for one thing English is not your first language, so lower SAT's are more acceptable.

They also know that college admissions have turned into an industry in the US (with intensive SAT preparation courses, college counsellors etc) while this is not the case elsewhere in the world.

College admissions people want internationals so that they can have a well rounded class.

So I would recommend that you take the SAT's again if possible -- one great score in any of the tests would really make a difference even if the others remain the same.

Be careful about your Personal Statement: it's the only chance for you to "speak with" the admissions people as you really are. You as a person are addressing them directly -- no numbers, no titles, no prizes.. just you. Be honest and sincere in your Personal Statement. Be yourself. Don't boast, don't sound pretentious, don't be submissive either.

Recommendation letters are also important as you must know.

I don't want to give you names of colleges here, but believe me you have a chance to get into some of the best.

Best of luck...

onemoreparent

That was a really optimistic post.

jasonshah

Don't worry, Ivy League colleges are a "shot in the dark" for all of us. I suggest you sit back and enjoy the rest of your high school days. You've done the best you could in your applications and that should be a reward in itself.

Have you made it to the semifinal for merit scholarships at Richmond? I know a friend who is pretty much in your situation and was informed about it.

onemoreparent...thanks for your post...these sort of replies definitely boosts one's morale...yeah.. i think the best I can do is sit back and enjoy...i have done my job and now its adcoms' turn...

no, i have not been informed by UR admissions. Actually, this is the thing that has worried me. I had sincerely believed that I would make it to the semifinal for Richmond scholars program....i'm not bragging...haha

and plz some more suggestions...

i applied to F&M, Kzoo, Earlham and St. Lawrence on feb 1. Any more suggestions about colleges whose deadlines haven't passed or those who still accept application. My financial ability to pay is about $8000 to $10000.

Suggestions????I am all ears

Not to be a wet blanket but my SATs were higher than yours and Kalamazoo semi-rejected me on the basis of my need. But I guess you can pay a bit more than me.

I had applied EA to Earlham but they forwarded it to the RD because of my aid requirements.

I would suggest you look at www.ndsu.edu

Well Bowdoin is kinda high reach but hey you never know!:)

Well I think all the colls I have applied r reaches if u take my financial need....Bowdoin and 3-4 others r definitely high reaches...i simply love them

From Nepal = a hook, hopefully.

Don't think so. There are trillions of applicants from Nepal this year :p Just check the Nepal thread.

seriousl, if you wanna pursue engineering try purdue

purdue doesn't give aid to intls.

Be it trillion or zillion it certainly is lower than India.

hey all....got rejected by Bowdoin...

Any suggestions about colleges whose deadline (scholarship deadline) is still intact????
