Suggest some urban schools!

<p>Since I've had good luck posting these kinds of threads here, here I go again. :D I'm but a small, pensive junior that can't seem to make up her mind.</p>

<p>Background: I'm in full IB classes, have leadership positions in a few clubs, extensive volunteering, and have good stats, but I want some safer schools on the list in addition to the tougher ones. Just ballpark it.</p>

<p>My major is undecided since my interests are all over the place. Right now it looks like I may go into Biology or Sociology. Or maybe Anthropology.</p>

<p>These are the qualities I'm looking for...
- Anywhere in the country. Hopefully not in MD. xD
- In or very close to a major city.
- An active social scene with plenty to do on/around campus.
- Any size, as long as it tends towards smallish class sizes.
- The facilities for a good "quality of life".
- Diversity in every sense of the word!</p>

<p>My college list is still wavery and undeveloped, so any help is appreciated.</p>

<p>You seem to have very competitive academic stats. I've heard that many of the less-competitive schools will admit you on the basis of your IB diploma alone. So you're looking for diversity, urban location, and an active social scene. Small class sizes are very difficult to find in larger urban universities unless you are involved in the honors programs, and this may be a stretch even for a person as motivated as yourself. College is hard enough, don't you think?</p>

<p>Let's see, these schools jump out at me as good ones for you:</p>

<p>Georgetown University
George Washington University
NYU (most urban)
University of Chicago (though it is very elite)
Boston University
Boston College
Northeastern University (also in Boston)
UCLA (this is also a tough school to get into)
University of San Francisco (it is Catholic, if that matters)
University of Washington (highly recommended, that's where I'm going!)
Portland State University or University of Portland (depending on your major)
University of British Columbia (in Vancouver, best school in Canada in my opinion, and much cheaper than private American schools)
McGill University (montreal)
University of Toronto
Seattle University
Fordham Universtity (NYC)
Saint Louis University (I don't know if you'd like St. Louis though)
Northwestern University (very competitive in Chicago)
Loyola University (also Chicago)</p>

<p>How about Barnard? Small classes, all of the resources of Columbia, all of the excitement of New York City.</p>

<p>I would add on Berkeley. True, the town of Berkeley isn't urban per se, but it's only an hour's BART ride to San Francisco.
Also consider:
American
Columbia
USC
and I'd also consider UCSD.</p>

<p>I would highly recommend checking out Boston University. It seems to fit your criteria very well. NYU would probably get good as well.</p>

<p>A few more:</p>

<p>Case Western in Cleveland
University of Pittsburgh
Carnegie-Mellon University (a stone's throw from Pitt)
University of Tulsa
Georgia Tech in Atlanta
University of Cincinnati
Marquette University (Milwaulkee)
University of Rochester
Texas Christian University (Fort Worth)</p>

<p>"Diversity in every sense of the word." You're talking about Occidental in California.</p>

<p>Other possibilities: Macalester (Mn.), Reed, Lewis & Clark (Oregon), Clark University, Trinity University (san antonio), University of Puget Sound (Washington), Southern Methodist University (TX), University of Miami, Syracuse, Tulane.</p>

<p>Thanks for all of the suggestions!</p>

<p>I probably wouldn't have thought of some of those schools myself.</p>

<p>Rice could fit you. It's really politically diverse (though people might tell you otherwise), and fairly ethnically and financially diverse as well.</p>
