With the new acceptances about to come out, I've started to get excited again about going to UVa this fall (accepted ED). I saw a thread like this on a different page so I thought I'd start one for the UVa page.

Are there any current students that have some suggestions/warnings about freshman courses from experience or from things you've heard. I'm planning to major in history, but I'd love suggestions about any freshman courses in general. Thanks.

suggestion: dont worry about what you get signed up for in orientation, because you will end up changing your schedule 20 times after that. i cant say this enough please understand it now first week of classes is "shopping week" and you go to all the classes you are thinking of taking and just sign up online or manually through a course action form after you decide you like it. :)

other suggestion: cod for fall comes out friday ("today") so you can browse it if you really want but seriously your first semester/two dont really matter in the grand scheme of things. you should worry about requirements for gen ed and pre-major reqs, but most of that can also be done your 2nd yr. :)

i dont have any recs for history, but i have heard most of the american history is miserable. :/ world civ is also apparently awful and only kept around as an ed school req (which means ill have to take it at some point... blah)

What is a typical schedule for first year student? I know it depends a lot on credits, honor program, and interests but can someone give me a scenario?

it seriously depends on the person. what are your interests maybe then we can help define it further. some ppl take really well rounded schedules, some take really one sided schedules (all humanities or all science, etc)...

Well I am interested in accounting or just business in general, so I will be applying to McIntire my second year. I was thinking of starting a new language like Turkish but reading stuff here is scaring me. I also plan to major or minor in Psych.
