Can any current BC student recommend a list of courses to take first semester? Ideally, the classes I would like to be rewarding, not difficult, and not too much workload. Thanks

very helpful

what are the best core classes from everyone's individual experience?

I AP out too many core classes to know any good intro/core classes. However, there are several professors I highly recommend to anyone.

Mark Gelfand of History (dry humor, great lecturer)

Richard Kearney of Philosophy (fantastic lecturer, can answer any question and you'll feel like he has answered the question to your satisfaction without beating around the bush, and simply brilliant)

Seth Jacobs of History (Simply the best lecturer in the entire university)

Ronald Tacelli of Philosophy (brilliant professor, he knows so much that you think his brain should have bursted long ago)

Wangler of Theology (dry, tedious lecturer; however, you'll learn a whole lot of Catholic theology from him and the tests are so easy, if you get an B or less, then you'll need to ask yourself is college right for you)

thanks Reddune.

I am looking at the PEPs on UGBC and there are tons of professors listed for the first yr writing seminar, is there anyway to tell who the professors will be this coming semester?

Carnegie, go to the Course Offering Schedule on Agora. Click on CAS, English, and search for all courses and it will list all the sections of FYWS.

Redsoxfan is that schedule for this upcoming year or for the year that just passed?

Ok nvm I found what I was looking for.

Ok so when it says "closed" next to the course, does that mean that that class is filled and you can no longer register for it or is there a possibility that you might be able to?

The class is up to full capacity. You can ask the professor of the class to give you an override, but you can only get that activated during the school year. I would email the professor anyway incase someone else might ask him later. Professors are pretty happy to have students who want to take their class, but they can only hand out override to a certain limit.

I just checked the course schedules on the BC website. And literally every single core class with the exception of like 3 are closed for registration. Does this mean I will have to take non-core classes first semester?

no those are closed for upperclassmen who have already registered. when you go to orientation they have already set aside classes for the freshman. now whether they run out before you register, i dont know.

Can I change my courses online after I come back from orienation?

You can change your courses any time up until the add/drop period, which I believe is about two weeks into the semester.
