I will be attending GT in the fall and am wondering if anyone knows any professors I want to try and get, or NOT get! I will probably be taking:

Chem 1310
Math 1502
HPS1040
CS 1371
ENGL 1101

Any help would be much appreciated!

CS 1371 - You only have a choice of two, I believe. Take Marsicano. Sorry, I can’t help you with the other classes.

Go to Ratemyprofessors.com to check out the reviews for various professors. If you don’t know the names of the professors, you can put the school name, then go page by page to see the ratings of different profs. It is laborious but like you, at this point, I don’t have any other source either.
For Eng 1101- Scott Banville/Robert Blaskievicz
For Math 1502- Huy Huynh/Sung Kang/Doron Lubinsky
CS 1371- Cedric Stallworth
For Chem 1310- William Barron

I don’t anything about HPS 1040. What class is that?

HPS 1040 is the pe/health class

Go on https://oscar.gatech.edu to check the schedule for each class you plan on taking in Fall 2011. Some of the classes have not listed the name of the instructors yet.

Then you can go [Rate My Professors | Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com](http://www.ratemyprofessor.com) to see if you find a review on each of them. Some of the instructors are not listed.

sga.gatech.edu/critique is the best place to go. It lists the professor’s historic GPA and student ratings.

I tried to go to this website. I guess incoming Freshman are not allowed to view this?

Everyone, including freshman, can view GPA averages. Only students with active student accounts can access the critique scores. I assume you get an account at FASET.

MATH 1502 : Lubinsky. So easy, decent teacher. Very funny. He does PRS questions so it is good to attend lecture but I never attend my recitation because my TA sucks. Basically his test are always out of 53-56 and a 100 is a 50 so you have the possibility to get over a hundred on every test. This is surprisingly not as difficult as you would imagine. His test structure is identical to his previous exams, the math is just difficult so you have to watch your computation. His homework however is VERY difficult. It’s usually 16-20 problems which are turned in the recitation before the test. There are 3. I would just say work on them as you learn the material and you should manage an A. Lubinsky also has a drop test so you can fail one of them. The only problem with the tests are they are only 3/4 questions but very long. It’s been a time crunch on every test for me. Either way, I’m a procrastinator, I do the homework two days before it’s due and spend hours on it. Get high Bs/low As. I then study the night before the exam and have managed to get an 88, an 82, and a 98 on the three tests.
*Keep in mind you don’t know who your professor is until Phase 2 and everyone will try and override in to this class.

HPS 1040 : Rosskompf (sp?) Not difficult. She tells you the classes when there will be an assignment and she posts the completed powerpoint slides online. Her tests love to have percentages on it, and mathematical equations to determine things like BMI. Her questions are specific so you need to read the slides very closely to study. You will have a few online quizzes which we always did in groups and managed to get 95-100% on all of them. She offers up to 5% points extra credit on your final grade. These range from watching a movie during dead week, giving blood, running a race, etc. Do them! I got an 88 in the class and then the 5 bonus points got me an A. Very simple class if you study and I hear she in one of the easier professors so I was lucky I got her.
*Health fills up fast and becomes very difficult to get so snag it whenever you see an open spot.

Any recommendations for Biology 1510: Spencer/Choi?

Spencer isn’t bad, but expect to put more time in the class than normal. The homework is unnecessarily long. Her grading scale is based off the top 5%, which may be good or bad depending on the student. The classes’ test average this semester has been around the upper 60’s but the top 5% has been in the mid 90’s. I don’t know if Choi might give easier tests.

Anyone else you would recommend for this course?

What about professors for Chem 2311 (orgo), CS 1315, Physics 2211 Modern, Spanish 1001 and 1101, and Chinese 1001?

In the Fall, Morley teaches MATH 1502 so I would recommend him. For core classes get the easiest teachers you can. Morley has probably the highest GPA and Calc II is one of the tougher core classes here. He gives open book + note tests and if you have a high enough average you can exempt the final exam. I will tell you that he is not a good teacher, so if you want to actually learn then you might not want him. For CS 1371, I would get Professor Marsicano she is way better than Professor Smith. She actually teaches and you can see her dedication to the subject and willingness to help out students. Smith isn’t a bad guy but he is a terrible teacher in my opinion. For English, new teachers come every year choose a teacher who has the most interesting subject matter to you. All Chemistry teachers suck in my opinion, I had Wine/El Sayed last semester and they were both mediocre at best. I heard Professor Payne is decent though.

So if you have FASET after Phase 2 begins, you should give up all hope of getting Lubinsky?

Probably. I would still check up on the class every now and then on some late nights; you never know if someone suddenly drops the class.

Most students that were already in gatech could begin selecting their fall classes during their spring semester. The only ones that would probably still be available are the ones a recent HS grad would need.

P.S. I would recommend Kleim for HPS 1040. Her tests are straight off the powerpoints plus she gives an outline of what the test will cover.
