Suggested safeties, matches, and reaches?

Hello all, I'm a junior in highschool worrying about college admission extensively. I would really like your help in getting suggested safeties, matches, and reaches based on my stats!!!

I'm looking for a school preferably in the northeast, that's as prestigious as possible (I don't have much to work with)

-Average: 80
-SAT: 1960 (R - 660, M - 640, W - 660)
*I'm retaking the SAT and I know I can do better, expecting 2000-2100
-EC: Model UN 2 years
Red Cross Club 2 years
Whatever I do over summer (possible community service+job)
-School doesn't rank
-Prestigious Public Highschool in NYC, Dailybeast named 9th best highschool i nnortheast and 50th in the country
-Male, Asian descent (Nepalese)

Help would be very appreciated!!! I know the majority of CC students are of higher GPA's but please try to bare with me

Need more info. Do you want a small school? A LAC? What are your academic interests?

I’m not too picky about size, I can see myself assimilating into either. Nothing under 2,000 and nothings over 25,000 maybe?

What is an LAC? I’m sorry

Haven’t set in stone my majors yet but my itnerests include, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering

LAC = liberal arts college (mostly private schools). What can your family afford?

oh, thats important too. 25k and under (tuition+fees) please!!! if im in love with the place i can see 30 though

and im fine with either as long as the LAC has academics that arent terrible

I’m sorry to break this to you but “prestigious,” and “under 30k,” don’t go together. Not unless you come up with 10k-25k of merit/scholarships.

An 80 average is going to prove difficult to work with as well . . .

Yea an 80 average is about equivalent to a 2.5, which is indeed very difficult to work with.

Your SUNYs will be well priced for you. I doubt you’d make Bing or Geneseo with that GPA. Maybe Stony Brook or Buffalo for engineering.

what courses have you taken?

You should do a search on collegeboard.com! Type in your intended major, location, GPA, SATs, & find a list of colleges that fit.

As far as good schools in the northeast go, I can list a couple: Syracuse, NYU, Boston University, Northeastern, University of Vermont, UMass Amherst…

^ Yes, let’s suggest NYU for someone who can’t afford more than 25K (/sarcasm)

Well, it depends how much financial aid you’ll receive. If your parents make anything less than 200k, you’ll get some sort of need-based scholarship. That’ll reduce the cost of the school, and then you don’t necessarily have to reduce your pool of colleges to those that only cost less than 30k a year.

The only “aid” a student can count on is a Stafford LOAN. NYU does not give out grants or scholarships unless the student is very desirable and they use that aid to reel in the rest of the tuition. SOME schools will offer FA to a student from a low income home but those schools are very competitive. These threads can give some good info on how to approach financial need.

thank you all for the input.

all classes are quite normal except for
AP Psych
Ap Art History
Forensic Science (college credit)
Astronomy (college credit)

also i was planning on applying to Geneseo through the TOP program where they lower admission requirements to an 80 average and a 900/1600 SAT (I have a 1300 currently) due to race as Geneseo is apparently a terribly un-diverse school.

and*** yeah i realize the prestige, money, and grade situation, so emphasis on the “as prestigious as possible”, or reworded, “a college as least crappy looking(on a resume and in general)+being as possible”

and ok i’ll raise my willing price up to 30K and yes the SUNYs are good fits for me but i also want to consider some schools outside

bumppppppppppp
