Can anyone suggest a school for me to apply to which main or a big focus is writing, the arts, and history. I am very good at math and science, but I don't enjoy them. My dream job is to be a curator or a journalist in New York. Can someone please help me.

The following schools have rolling deadlines:
<a href=“Boarding School Search Results”>http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/search-boarding-schools/0000/00000000000/01/1000/020

Out of them, I’d suggest looking and researching them. Get a feel for the school. Then apply where you see fit.

i am thinking about applying for Interlochen.

Go for it! There’s also a search tool on that website that narrows the search down to only arts schools, which you can then further narrow with rolling admissions, location, and the like. I’d suggest using it to get a really specific set of schools you might want to apply to.

Thomas Jefferson School focuses on the classics. It’s very good in all areas (extremely high SAT too), but its specialties are in the areas you mentioned. It sounds like a perfect fit honestly.

It’s seems very rigid and not liberal enough for me.

Did you look at Northfield Mount Hermon, Concord Academy, and The Masters School? Interlochen is a great idea too!

@Hsgirl,

All reputable BS will have teachers who are willing to support bright, motivated students in their discipline.

You mentioned on another thread that you require full FA. The FA bit will be harder to secure than the writing/arts/history bit. A more pragmatic strategy would be to target the FA bit first. If you get multiple admission offers, THEN decide on the basis of which school has the stronger program in your field of interest.

Good luck!

Sort of along @GMTplus7’s idea: apply to generous FA schools that don’t focus as much on the arts as well. If you apply to an arts school, the hundreds or thousands of other applicants will also be incredibly talented, and you may not end up with enough aid. But it could be considered a hook at another school.

Thanks for the suggestion.

It is likely a bit late for this summer BUT if you are interested in Interlochen, I strongly encourage you to apply for one of their summer camps in your field of interest. It is an amazing place! I know of several students who were recruited to the school after attending the camp. Good luck!

I called Masters and they said that they didn’t have financial aid now, but they might get more funding in the spring.

OK, the reason that I suggested Masters is because of it’s proximity to NYC. Based on some of your interests, I would keep them on your radar. But definitely keep ALL of these schools on your radar, because of the FA bit. In our BS search, we were impressed by the arts offerings at many schools which don’t necessarily have an “artsy” rep.

Thank you, I am going to apply to all of these school. I personally prefer interlochen and Masters. Hopefully they will give me financial aid. Interlochen has a high percent of student on financial aid.

I found some emails from Cheshire Academy in my spam folder. They may still be accepting applications.

what did those emails say?

Basically that it is not too late to apply there

Thank you, it looks like a very nice school. But, I am just leaning toward Masters and Interlochen.

Does anyone else have more suggestions?

If you’re looking at Interlochen, does that mean you have a particular area of the arts that interests you? If so, you can also look at Walnut Hill. I think they may still be taking applications.
