I'm going to be visiting the college in late February. Are there any suggestions on what to do. Is there anything that is a must see that isn't on the campus tour?

If you can, attend a class or arrange a meeting with a professor in a department you are interested in. You should also see the model dorm room if it’s available for viewing. I have been on two campus tours and still haven’t managed to see one, and I am curious as to the size.

On the tour, interact with your tour guide as much as you can. Try to get in the smallest group. If you have questions about life and extracurriculars that aren’t answered during the information session, they are a huge help. If they don’t know the answer to a question, they usually can give you the email of someone who can.

You also might want to walk around Franklin St, because it is a big part of the Carolina experience. Or you could eat in the dining hall.

Overall, just soak in the atmosphere. Watch how the students interact with each other and how happy and excited they all are. It’s a great place to be.

Go to a men’s basketball game if they are in town!

You should go to Ram’s Head dining hall and ask students in the lobby if they’ll swipe you in. Most people I know had 30 or so meals left over, so usually they will be happy to let you in on their meal plan. Or you could pay the $10.25 per person, but honestly, unless you are planning on eating three meals in one sitting, it won’t be worth it.

Bring proper footwear (read: rainboots). I didn’t and my feet were cold and freezing in flats during the tour.

Also-- check out some of the restaurants on Franklin. I’d recommend Mama Dips (not on Franklin, but amazing southern food), Franklin Pizza Pasta, Top of the Hill, etc!

In addition to rain boots and comfortable shoes, warm clothes that can be layered and an umbrella just in case.

Tour the basketball museum/hall of fame…worth the time and effort.

Here’s a good list and review of eating places:

[Matt Barrett’s Favorite Chapel Hill-Carrboro Restaurants](http://www.northcarolinatravels.com/food/chapelhill-carrboro-restaurant-reviews/index.htm)

I’ve eaten at many of the places he talks about and agree with his reviews commentary about most. Also agree with ArtemisDea’s Mama Dips recommendation… also Spanky’s is a great spot for lunch if your parents are coming with you and it’s very convenient…heart of CH and directly across Franklin Street from Top of the Hill.

Peppers pizza is a CH landmark for a fast/casual lunch.

Go eat at **Ski’s on Franklin Street. It is like edible crack.

Spanky’s, Franklin St. Pizza & Pasta, and Elmo’s are probably my three favorite places… sooo good.

ETA - and how could I forget YoPo (The Yogurt Pump)? Delish. : -)

Yeah, Yofrutt is so much sexier than Yopo but I can’t cheat on my original froyo love. Yopo is so tried and true.

Eat as much as you can. If you wan’t campy/collegey/legendary: **ski’s, sutton’s (where the basketball players eat), cosmic cantina, buns, IP3’s, carrburritos. If you want moderately priced great food: Mama Dip’s, Elmo’s, Trilussa, Twisted Noodle. If you want to be wowed: 411, Crook’s Corner (though I was let down last time), Mint.

Drive into Carrboro (my beloved village) and down to South Campus. If you don’t like South Campus, remember, you don’t ever have to live there. haha. But some like its charm.

Go into the second floor of Wilson library (if you’re not sure you’re in the right place ask to go to the room with marble pillars).

Buy something blue at the back of student stores.

Enjoy your time. :-)

Who knows, maybe I’ll be giving your tour!
