suggestions for a future business major

My school has very limited APs. Around me there are very few opportunities. I want to be a business major in college, like finance, or marketing, or even international. Any suggestions in terms of enrichment, summer activities, courses...? (I'll be a junior next year.)

Paid work. Of any kind. It’s a different experience from volunteering or conventional ECs, and it’s an experience that will be particularly meaningful for you. Take the opportunity to observe as much as you can about how the permanent employees, especially the managers, do their jobs and what challenges they face. You may be surprised at how much you can learn, even if you’re only stocking shelves or running a cash register.

I suggest you do some research into the job and career possibilities of the different fields. My nephew has come to the conclusion that marketing as an undergraduate major was a mistake, and he would have been better off as a finance major. Before landing a new, hopefully better, job recently, he was looking into returning to school to get a finance degree. The course requirements for the various fields can be quite different, so you want to consider that, as well.

Thank you! I appreciate the suggestions, esp. sharing the experience of your nephew.

What are you good at?

Create a wordpress website and write articles everyday on whatever your passion is. Do this all through college. Your writing will improve and you will begin to establish yourself an expert in your field.

Teach yourself to invest time in the project, no matter what.

Learn how to market your product, start marketing it locally.

Interview people. Write an e-book related to your topic.

If you do this for the rest of high school and all through college you will have over 2000 hrs of experience, probably more.

You will not learn any of this in college. The degree will cost you thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Maintaining a website, investing in yourself, and turning it into a business will cost you around $15 a month. And it will truly be a business education.

Most people don’t this. Most people become dependent on a paycheck.

Get your degree. You will need it. It will look good on your “about me” page when you establish yourself as the “go-to” guy in your field.
