Suggestions for Applying!

My college GPA is a 3.0 right now... I still have another year at community college left (24 credits to go- 15 this semester, 7 in spring-- but I'm going to go over AA requirement) to raise my GPA.

My high school transcript is not strong.

I plan on transferring for Fall 2009 semester.

What colleges would you recommend me applying to in the Northeast?? Preferably NY/NJ/CT/MA or Southern California??

I've been already thinking about:
Syracuse University
Pace University
Fordham University
Northeastern
SUNY Schools
Penn State
UCSB

And please include any advice you have for me !!

Thank you :)

please... anybody

Syracuse, Fordham, Northeastern, and Penn State might be a bit of a reach at the moment(do you live in PA?).

You'll certainly get into Pace. I don't know too much about the SUNY Schools or UCSB so I can't help you there.

You already have a decent chance at Syracuse, Fordham, Northeastern, and PSU(depending on your other credentials). If you raise your GPA to 3.3 it will make a very big difference(I got into Northeastern with a 3.3 transfer GPA).

If you have any specific questions about transferring to Northeastern I would be more then happy to help :D

Go to SUNY Buffalo!

thanks SO much for replying and for your advice. My GPA will DEF be up by the end of this semester. I'm hoping to get it closer to a 3.5., and I'm not going apply until the end of this sem or the spring.

I don't live in PA, I live in NYC.

I REALLY want to go to Northeastern ESP b/c it has my major and is close to a city. FU is like 10 min from where I live.

Did you apply to Northeastern with any extra curriculars? I was thinking of joining a club just to up my chances.

Ronaldo-
SUNY Buffalo is SOO far from home ! Lol how do you like it??

UC schools are notoriously tough to get into, especially for out-of-staters. They are also pretty expensive, so really think about it & look to see where you stack up against the profile of students they admit before you invest too much energy on them. I don't think they'd find an 3.0 (or slightly higher) GPA very compelling.
Sorry, don't know much about the other schools but suspect many schools in your state would find you a very attractive transfer candidate.

Thanks ! Yeah, it's difficult.. I was even going to move out there a few years ago to go to SMC because of that reason.

If it helps any, I made Dean's list last semester.

@sparklinshinexx, I apologize about taking a few days to respond

I did have some ECs. The application is a transfer common app so there is a section to list your ECs. The only ECs I participated in college were intramural sports(soccer and football). In high school I volunteered at an inner city community center for kids after school. Thats what I wrote about in my extracurricular essay(whatever that 250word essay is called).

I was 100% sure Northeastern was the school I wanted to transfer to so it was the only one I applied to. Since it was the only school, I wrote my essay specifically for the school.

The beginning of my essay explained the history of a medical problem I had during high school(chronic migraines) which caused my high school grades to dip and caused me to have to attend my former college. The second half of my essay was tailored specifically for Northeastern. I had three paragraphs describing NEU's unique differences that made it the right school for me:

more competitive

better cultural diversity(on campus and in boston)

co-op

You're probably applying to several schools so this may not apply but you should use YOUR specific reasons for applying(although be sure to mention co-op).

and its not close to a major city, its IN a major city which happens to be the best college town in the world :p

Thanks for getting back to me cpschick!

& for all the useful information:)
