Ive got close to no idea where I want to go. Thinking liberal arts college but family and friends and especially teachers tell me its limiting myself in scope of experience and education. It would also put a dampener on my work as Im very actively organizing in my local of Oakland CA and am very interested in politics, pursuing marxist (trotskyist) studies for over a year now. Have ambitions to organize internationally and chill after high school but that isnt set in stone. Would appreciate some help in deciding where to apply and of course suggestions on my field of study.
On the recommendation of my english teacher Ive taken an online quiz that has typed me as an INTP. So those who know what this means, feel free to give me any tips or comments
Thanks

Little tibbits about myself
Philosophy - metaphysics and political- is totally fun
Reading is cool too as long as its not too derivative and structured
Airheaded people **** me off to no end
Laid back with what some call 'rebellious streak' going. Not like I have weird hair or anything, just asian parents
Technology and computers intrest me. My Galaxy Nexus is running a custom jelly bean rom with a turbocharged kernel written by moi
Hardcore trotskyist that hasnt forgotten the need for internationalism and the youth
Appreciate and dabble a bit in design. Made this awesome table that looks just like its from ikea :p
Sci-fi of all sorts amuse me. Star Wars excluded

I suggest that you move to a cheap area of NYC, get a job and a library card, and take courses at the New School. Conventional universities and LACs and going to be far too structured for you.

I’m actually serious.

Your other option might be Patrice Lumumba U, if it still exists. Except, of course, that Russia is actually an authoritarian society. Dreams die hard.

Perhaps a school in DC (American?) would give you a good outlet. Otherwise, for LACs on the east coast perhaps Clark College (MA), Skidmore (NY).

Evergreen State is less expensive at list price than Hampshire, though financial aid may change the comparison. OP has not mentioned any cost constraints, or whether s/he is from a top 2% income family that is able and willing to afford list price at any college.

But would someone who is set in his/her politics (“hardcore” anything) find any college or university courses in philosophy, political science, history, economics, etc. to be congenial, since studying those things does tend to bring up things that poke holes in the world view of hardcore ideologues and partisans?

I’d start going through lists of schools known for their Political Science Departments. There must be some discussions on this here on CC so start with those. Get a copy of the Fiske Guide and see his recommendations for that major. You should look at the schools’ websites to see the depth of the PolySci and history departments and course offerings.
I’m thinking that a university might have more options for you than a LAC since you have already narrowed your focus of interest quite a bit.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Google every college given on this thread till now.

@ucbalumnus - I’m low income but already have a long list of scholarships so hopefully that and whatever I can muster up in terms of financial aid and working senior year onwards to college can cover. And I’m open minded. It is what has gotten me into communism in the first place. A perspective that works to explain the contradictions of human society through materialism is a worldview that is not easily contradicted itself.

@Consolation - Maybe I didnt clarify what I ment as structured but I ment it as prerecorded epiphanies and conclusions. AP US History had enough of that already to make me question what I’ll be doing these next few years

@happy1 - One of my close friends will be going to American. Have you any personal insite to the colleges you’ve named?

@guidedbywire - Tell me more. Searched it up and liking what I’m seeing but seems too hippie like to me

@BeanTownGirl - I will be sure to skim that book over. Being near UCB makes it very easy to explore the plethora of options out there

I was actually serious about the New School, but if you want a more conventional school structure Reed would be the obvious place for you. Unfortunately, you do not appear to have the stats to get into that or any other highly intellectual school, but you could give it a try. You never know.

Thanks for the help everyone. Accepted and going to UC Berkeley, somewhere where I can make a very real difference even in college and with the Regent’s scholarship is free.
