Does anyone have suggestions for courses to meet the fine arts requirement? Keep in mind this is for someone who has absolutely no artistic abilities or interest (so art is probably out). Maybe music would be the best bet.

DRAM 116 with Ken Strong. That's what most people with no artistic inclination take. Prof is very funny, good lecturer, and the class isn't that hard. It's mostly just reading plays and the grade is based on a paper and two multiple choice exams.

I have to very strongly agree with the above post. It's a great, easy, fun class and Ken Strong is a great guy.

mkm: They have a couple of really excellent "fine art" and documentary photographers at UNC, who are also excellent instructors. I don't know if photography fulfills a fine art requirement (though it should), but that would be a good option, too.

thanks for the response--I don't know about the photo classes Jack--son is having trouble finding them and if they meet perspectives. I would like to take some though!

As far as the Ken Strong class--son said he got on Ratemyprofessor and feedback was wonderful for this guy---funny, smart, entertaining, engaging, enthusiastic, etc, etc--sounds like a winner!

for people that are having trouble finding classes that meet perspectives, i found a great tool

go to Student Central

then click the Graduation Requirements Advising System, within that u can click on ur major, and ur Academic worksheet will show up...for the blank areas (the prerequisites u have to fill) if u click on those, it will bring up a full list of classes that qualify for that prerequisite, its pretty awesome and helped me a lot

try it out

that is a great tool arclax3. Thanks for finding it.

no problem:)

after struggling between guessing, and going back and forth between student central and the registration course search engine along with the chapel hill course directory i was almost about to lose it, and then i found that tool after finishing my schedule..seeing that some of the things i had picked weren't doing me any good i was able to drop them and pick classes that would fill blanks...hope it helps everyone else out like it helped me

mkm: The photography courses should be under studio arts, I think, but it sounds like the Ken Strong class is perfect!
