Suggestions for Freshmen?

I'm a freshmen, and I want to go to a good college (ivy league). What should I do this year to help me go the college of my choice (possibly brown)?

Thanks!

anyone? Hello?

One thing I wish I had realized more when I was a freshman - grades really do matter when you’re a freshman. So study up and take challenging classes so colleges can see you’re taking rigorous courses and not slacking.
Once you get into sophomore and junior year, start practicing for SAT and ACT. With enough practice you should be able to score really well.
Get involved at your school. Colleges love to see well-rounded individuals. So join clubs and organizations that interest you (but don’t go crazy by joining 10 just because you think it’ll impress colleges; only join ones you can be committed to and actually enjoy). Also, later on in your high school career, try to gain leadership positions in those clubs so colleges can see you’re doing more than just attending meetings.

Well, I would take a look at the schools you’re interested in and see if you actually like them (visit, if possible, though freshman year is a bit early to be worrying about college). I knew that I thought the Ivy League was the bee’s knees going into high school, but attending boarding school in New England has really disillusioned me with some of the big name schools.

There are other things, of course, but I’ll let others address those.

Also, I can’t believe I just said “bee’s knees.”

really learn your stuff now so you don’t get stuck with a weak background later

this is especially important for subjects that build on themselves, such as math and foreign languages

also, do competitions, they’re fun and may impress universities

yeah my school is a bilingual school, so no prob with the language thing or math thing. :)

Make sure that you try to make the best grades you can. Not only does it set the foundation for what lies ahead, but it gives you a padding on your GPA. Your freshman year classes are most likely the easiest ones you will ever take, so a padding on your GPA is really needed.

Research the requirements for the colleges that you want to go to. Build your high school plan based upon those things, but don’t try to overload in the process unless you know you can handle it. Also, look at colleges that have comparable, lower, and higher stats so that you won’t have high hopes for just one college.

Get yourself involved in clubs and have leadership positions in them. Stay with them as long as you can. Also, remember to have fun!
