Look at Seekonk, MA if you want cheaper options

I was in Providence over the summer visiting Brown and my family stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Providence. If you look it up on GoogleMaps, it’s in ideal location. You are within walking distance of anything of interest (in Providence) and the walk to Brown along the river is beautiful. My family drove to campus (took less than 2 minutes) but we were on the back end of a long college tour, but to get a real feel for the neighborhood, you can walk right up College Hill to the Van Wickle gates and take in the Rhode Island air.

The hotel was basic, perfect for a few days of visiting Brown. I’d highly recommend it.

I was trying to avoid renting a car, how far is that from campus? Thanks!

.6 miles.

The addresses I used on Google maps are:

32 Exchange Terrace, Providence, RI (the hotel)
to
15 Prospect St, Providence, Rhode Island 02906 (just outside the Van Wickle gates)

Feel free to check yourself. It is up a slight hill but really not far at all. Actually, probably as close a walk as you can find!

Also a food suggestion: Hemenway Restaurant was a great restaurant if you were looking for some Atlantic fish. Also, within walking distance of the hotel!

Thanks mcskittlz10. - but I was asking the poster ring above you, sorry !

I will go to google maps and check it out. Thnanks again!

Seekonk is about 5 or so miles I think from Brown. I would look into public transportation if you’re not interested in renting a car. Providence doesn’t have the T.

Without a car your options are limited. The downtown hotels are within walking distance, but you do have to walk up a big hill – and if it’s raining, then it really isn’t fun. I’ve walked from downtown to campus a lot, but it’s not for someone who is out of shape.

Providence does have a good bus system, but I’m not familiar enough with it to give advice about its service from downtown to campus. Of course, you can always take a taxi.

There are a few B&Bs near campus; Brown runs an inn (Inn at Brown) but I’ll bet it’s already booked for ADOCH.

Yes, Inn at Brown is all booked, I tried that last week.

Not sure I would want to deal with public transportation like a bus.

But, I am fine with a taxi back and forth each day if I am too tired or the hill is too much.

Thanks!

Regarding buses, there are two services that leave from Kennedy Plaza (42 and the service sharing the same boarding area with it, I don’t remember which) which takes you up to Starbucks on Thayer. It takes all of 3 minutes, and I’m pretty sure there’s nothing much to “deal with”.
