Suggestions for Little Rock, Springfield, MO; Des Moines Iowa; Kansas City

I’m going on a road trip for a girl’s event in MN in September and am driving from TX. I’m stopping at some scrapbooking and quilting places I’ve always wanted to go to. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to stay that they know are safe (or areas to stay away from) in any of the above cities. I’m just staying one night at each place as I do my trip. Thanks!

In Des Moines, find something on the north or west side. Which, if you are travelling I-35, is where you’ll come through anyway.

Country Club Plaza in KC is a nice area with lots of shops, restaurants and hotels.

I hope you’re planning to go through Hamilton, MO to see the Disneyland of quilting, Missouri Star. It’s about an hour and a half from Kansas City.

@Wellspring that is one reason I’m driving up there! I can’t wait to spend a day at MSQC! I’ve never been and have wanted to for a long time. I’m going there on the way up and stopping to see my son at school on the way back (IF his busy schedule allows!).

There’s a very good WWI museum in Kansas City. Whooda thunk it?
Was in KC six years ago for a family reunion and couldn’t find quilt stores. SIx weeks after I got home, I heard about MSQC for the first time. I’d love to take a road trip, but I have more fabric than I will EVER use at this point in my life.

You want to stay in “west” Little Rock. North of 630 and West of 430. In and around Chenal Parkway.

In Arkansas, the state capitol is interesting, as is the Clinton Presidential Library, and the Central HS Museum. The Central Museum brings me to tears. It is small, but intense.

Not the point of your trip, I know, but near the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City there is a great art museum–The Nelson-Atkins. Admission is free.

@atomom you are right! I love that museum… We visited it when we first looked at colleges: My son and I had a wonderful day there before driving on to Manhattan for our college tour the next day,
