Suggestions for me please

I am a Junior right now (edit)

Ok...first.... today I just realized I didn't make the cutoff for the PSAT 2007 for national merit... (no one else knows their score yet, I saw it off my counselor's list" I did not study for the PSAT

Second, I am studying for the ACT and SAT right now, using the 2007 McGraw Hill's 10 practice ACT tests, and The OFFICIAL SAT study guide with 9 practice sets.

Any suggestions on what I should do each day?

Here are my ECs

Treasurer of French club (hopefully President my S year, not really much competition)
President of Chess club (...)
VP of Chinese Club (...One of the Co-Founders)
Secretary of Computer club
NHS (just putting it up here...)
Varsity Track
Volunteer, etc

I got a 30 on the PLAN( similar to a PRE-ACT)
I took CALC AB sophomore year ( tested out of geometry, trig, and precalc)
and will be taking Calc 3 at a community college.

I don't think I'm taking enough APs, because right now I'm only in AP chem and will be taking BC next semester.

I plan to take SAT II for chem, math II, and self study world history (im in normal history right now)

Currently I have a 4.0

All Honors courses for english
Rank 5 for math in my school

Any suggestions on what I should do? Schedule/EC/Testwise?

I THINK I am getting into U of M but....I REALLLY REALLY do not want to go there, but there is SUCH a HUGE gap between U of M and Ivy leagues.. so yeah.

this isnt all of my creds, just ask me what else I might have and I'll tell you, I'm kind of doing this in a hurry

You seem to be fine.. Don't get carried away with planning everything to perfection.
Study hard, remain focused, and carry on with life.. It seems like you aren't sure where you want to go to college- but definitely not UMich.. I guess you should do some research about other colleges with your intended major, go have a look and see which you like most..There are so many to choose from.. UM and the Ivies represent less than 1% of all the schools in the US.
Good luck

I dont DESPISE U of M but I just don't want to go there because EVERYONE from my school goes there...

It is a GREAT college but...... I feel its too overrated.

U of M is a high ranked college but I feel I should go somewhere better..

Thanks for the advice

bump?...................

I THINK I am getting into U of M but....I REALLLY REALLY do not want to go there, but there is SUCH a HUGE gap between U of M and Ivy leagues.. so yeah.

Ummm what? Just kind of confused on that sentence.

I agree with crackednugget on his answer. I personally think you are an awesome candidate for something more. But I wouldnt let this post get to you too much, you should take a breather and look more into all the other factors that are important into picking a college thats right for you.

Bottom line is this: Do you see a huge gap between your performance in school and those who have gone or going to U of M? If you can look at yourself in the mirror and know that very well, then you need to look into other places.

P.S I would advise you manage your time wisely to accomplish your SAT goal. I bought a timer, locked myself in my room everyday to take a practice test and graded. After that..I tried learning a new trick from the practice books. Did this for 2 weeks.

Jesus my school doesn't even have clubs. XD

4 years from now you won't even remember all the hours of sweat and tears you bled for information that will never be used again.

If you're into science, I'd hit Cornell. A powerful essay could knock you in...maybe.

Hmm, thank you

Alfornale, what I meant is, .from what I have seen, many "ordinary" students got into U of M. I know its a great school, top 25 in the nation, but after seeing how someone with 1 club, 2 sports, and a 26 on ACT get in...... I felt I could try for something more. However, that "something more," such as Harvard.... is kind of extraordinarily hard to get in.
For example, the person with the 26 on ACTs is currently in Calc AB and he's a senior. I took Calc AB as a sophomore, with 5 on the AP test.
That's why I feel I want to go somewhere else.

Thanks for all the suggestions

bumpppppppppp

I don't have much advice, but I wanted to tell you I see where you're coming from. My parents wanted me to go to SUNY Binghamton, or something of the like. I know that Binghamton is a great school and that my best friends were dying to get in. For me personally, however, I wanted something more. I didn't want to end up in the same school as people who worked half as hard as I did when I put so much into my studies. That's partially why I chose the University of Pennsylvania. But, the Calc AB as a senior.. is that from your school? In my school, Calculus is pretty much only given to seniors. So that wouldn't be anything that U Mich would look down upon.

A lot of my classmates recently got into UMich. They're all very hard workers, but not at the very very top of the class. It is a great school, but I understand you striving for more.

Your extra curriculars seem perfect to me. You cover all the basics- leadership, sports, and volunteering. Just make sure you maintain a competitive schedule for senior year. Colleges definitely want to see that you do. Maintain your 4.0 and try for around 2200 on your SAT, and I think you're well on your way to a top tier school :-)

WOW Thanks

But uhh, I have no idea what I'm going into, I've only thought about med and now business (wharton) but my friend......

National quiz bowl, 2390 on sat, 35 on act, varsity swim, debate captain, math club pres, quiz bowl vp, bunch of other stuff, 13 aps, 9 aps junior year, all 5s, 4.0.........deferred from Wharton......

and laurgirl, can you tell me what was on your app when you applied to penn?/
Thank you

pS: i am thinking of not taking the SAT, is that alright?

bumpppppppppppppppp

I'm not saying you won't get a much better education somewhere else, but your motives seem to rooted in elitism. You understand that Mich is a public school and it wants to take many people, particularly from state. The more I read these forums, the more really smart kids I hear go there. So I don't blame you, I'd rather go somewhere else, but understand that Mich. provides a great education.

i don't have any advice except for maybe you could look at those great universities that's between ivy and UofM such as chicago, duke, jhu, nu, rice, emory, berkeley, blah blah blah.

and i understand exactly how you feel. i am in GA, and kids here all want to go to GT, which is an amazing high ranked school in engineering. but i feel like i can do better than that.
it would suck if i didn't get in any better schools, and have to settle for GT. All that work lol.
good luck

any suggestions such as....what more should i do.. ECs, volunteering , etc?
