SUNY Purchase would be a safety.
SUNY Purchase would ONLY be a safety if this parent was willing and able to pay the OOS cost of attendance.
That is $31,000 or so for the year THIS current year.
Thumper1 knows of what he speaks.
Seton Hall?
I thought SATs were ~1200 and ~1030. I’m not sure either score will qualify for much merit aid in NYS.
1030 gets nothing but it’s the D without NYC goals. Drew has promised merit for 1250 plus her GPA, ECs etc. May not be enough but may not wish to go anyway. We will see if Saturday’s SAT changes the calculus. If 1200 turns into 1190 we will stay home.
Adelphi is a nice school with generous merit aid. easy access to NYC on LIRR.
Adelphi matches 18% of aid. Not encouraging
Montclair State University in Montclair NJ is worth a look. So is Monmouth University in Long Branch NJ. Marist College in Poughkeepsie. Jersey City State in NJ. St. Peter’s University in Jersey City. Rider University in NJ.
Marist is on our list though not as a safety but for the design/digital program. Prob unaffordable but uninvestigated thus far.
What’s your budget?
How are there 15 replies without asking that question?
SUNY Purchase OOS costs half the price of NYU, Barnard and Fordham. So in this case, it is a safety school.
@Chardo, OP has another thread. The family has twins and the budget for each is $20k. The family has no income and a struggling business, so I think that’s being paid out of a 401k.
Yes, NYC is great, but if your D has a 1400 and a perfect gpa AND you need FA, then she can find better schools that are mor affordable than the NYC safeties. Focus more on aid and merit and quality of the school rather than being near the city. She can do internships in Manhattan during summers and live here when she graduates. Schools like Adelphi and Hofstra are just not worth it, despite easy access into the city, imo.
Thanks, everyone for your help. I think we’re locked into fiscally responsible in-state NC schools.
Lots of great schools in NC
