Suggestions for Move-in Time?

My son wants to move into his dorm at the Commons on the first possible date, August 21st.
My husband and I are sort of dreading the crowd, lines, etc. Does anyone have suggestions for a good time of day to go on that first day? At New Student Conference, one of the speakers said everyone comes early, but coming later means worse heat, so we're not really sure what time to go. It's about a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive for us, so that part isn't too bad, but the lines over there have us wondering how to avoid the chaos.

I’m not sure there is a good time, lol. My son was in Dunn last year and I spent a LOT of time circling to park close enough to the Commons to unload the car. And that was mid-week, not the first day of move-in! From what I could see the other dorms - Mosher, etc. weren’t much better off. It was like that at the beginning of the year, winter break and the end of the year. Good luck.

My dorm last year was Wells, which is right under the commons. What my family did was trek up there so that we’d arrived and parked at around 7-8 AM, a couple of hours later, and the whole areea was swamped! We waited outside a bit in line before our dorm officially opened and parked on Bizzell street

Are there really a lot of people to help carry things up to rooms? Also, where should my daughter get her key? (She is in Mosher)… We were thinking of heading over there around 7:15 … We’re staying at the Hampton Inn just down at University and Texas, but I wasn’t sure how backed up Texas avenue will get. Any helpful tips from those who have survived the move in are appreciated.

I believe there are a good amount of volunteers to help out! In my dorm, keys were given in a study lounge on the first floor (if you get there early enough, you’ll have to wait outside until an RA opens the doors to let people in,) or in general an area near the doorways, RA’s will be there to guide your daughter through the process of getting her key and signing in. If you get there early enough, Texas won’t be backed up, but the streets near the dorms will be, especially because on move in days, parking is allowed on the side of streets (check out this link! <a href=“Page Not Found”>Error; )

The first day we got there like 30 minutes before the dorms were opened. Was slammed crowded. However there were a lot of volunteers and stuff to help you move in. Not to mention President Loftin helped me by golf carting all my stuff up to Appelt. The day after that was when my roommate moved in and there was basically no one moving in compared to the first day.
