Suggestions for obtaining a summer internship?

Hey guys!
I'm already starting to think about my next summer internship...
So for those of you who don't know me, I'm currently a senior in high school. I was an intern developer last summer for a commodity information firm, and now am an intern (ugh... Operations :/ ) at Morgan Stanley... Smith Barney. :/

I'm in the DC area, and I want to go up a notch, even if that means that the internship is unpaid (as opposed to my previous internships.)

I know there are quite a few hedge funds in DC (Carlyle Group, as an example) but how would you recommend for me to even attempt to garner an internship at such a firm? Just cold-call? Should I even bother trying? Or perhaps I should try a different type of firm... (although for IBs, it's mostly boutiques in the DC area...)

Thoughts? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Get into a target school and go from there. hf/ib don’t need hs students

No ideas :'[

HAHAHA a high school student wants to work at CARLYLE? You realize Harvard MBAs compete for internships at Carlyle right? Be happy with your internship at smith barney, you’re already well ahead of the curve.

To get such a position as a HS student, you’d essentially need to have connections.

Just a clarification: I’m not looking for an internship at Carlyle… I’m not completely clueless! I’m just stating the fact that I know that while DC isn’t New York, it most certainly has HF… I’m looking more at smaller funds. Given that, any suggestions?

could I just know where you got the morgan stanley smith barney internship? Was that in your senior year? I want to get an internship at a place like that.

I got it because I’m part of a special leadership program in my county comprised of 15 students.

…every word I want to type has been censored by this family-friendly forum. You have no idea how lucky you are.

Due to my greed (which according to Gecko is good), I want to be even luckier :S

Anyone even have a list of hedge funds in the area?

Try to get into a target school, get a great gpa whatever school, take advantage of the network you have already started (well beyond most high schoolers) and keep up your “I can and will do this” mentality.
