My daughter is already looking at apartments for next year...any suggestions? She doesn't want to live in a dorm for another year. I would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations!!

for on ground options, lambeth is very nice. for off ground, there are some nice apartments on JPA that arent too far from classes if she's in clas. she may also live in her sorority house if she pledges a sorority next spring.

Thanks, she does want off grounds...she is interested in sororities but we'll wait and see about that...We'll check the JPA area...again, thanks!

At most sororities the girls do not live in the house until third-year.

Have your daughter walk around the different neighborhoods around grounds and write down the numbers of the different rental companies that are outside the buildings.

That is what my daughter did last year. She lives near the corner.

The nicest apartment complex I've been in is The V, which is right behind the corner.

What about Preston Square Apartments? Anyone know anything about them? The V looks nice Cavalier, and a good location, but a little expensive.

I mapquested the location and it seems rather far from grounds. It may be on a busy street and on the bus route. The last time that I was in town I went to the hardware store at Preston and Grady. So I kinda know where it is.

I would suggest checking out the neighborhoud around it before signing anything.

Overpriced, esp given that it's right next to the railroad tracks. 3k for an apartment where you can get a comparable, if not better one, for say 2.8k from wertland square? Please.

When my daughter was a 2nd year, she lived in an apartment on Brandon Avenue. Her apartment was closer to grounds than many dorms. One of the upper-class apartment dorms, Bice, is at the end of Brandon. In case you haven't used them, there is an off-grounds housing site and the rental companies have sites, like Management Services Corp. (MSC).

Thanks! Yes, she is in clas, and yes she does want to be close to grounds...she says that people are telling her she should be near the corner and she doesn't want to be too secluded because she wants to meet new people...she has at least one friend that I know of that would want to share the apartment...possibly two other girls...but not too expensive! Her dad and I would just as soon she stay in dorms another year but she is adamant that she doesn't want to do that.

What about an apartment around University Circle? Good, not good, expense, etc.?????

Are you kidding, okrogius? Have you even been in The V?? Plus, Wertland Square is that much closer to sketchy townies. I hate sketchy townies.

A lot of the plum properties are probably already taken. We signed last week for a house off 14th and many of the houses closer to grounds are already spoken for. Also be aware of some companies, such as CBS, that have the most retarded possible policies for trying to get a property (i.e. giving them money and applications and waiting MORE THAN A WEEK to hear if you got the place you wanted). However, a lot of places over on JPA and in other areas will probably have spots for another few weeks at least. I've lived at 600 Brandon Ave (cheap, had to share a room, great location, crappy building and facilities) and 1819 JPA (reasonable priced, farther from College classes, nice apts with fireplace, laundry in apartment, dishwasher) - Brandon we didn't sign until late in the fall semester, and 1819 we signed on this very Monday last year.

I'd suggest getting on it soon - the sooner you look, the better selection you have and you won't have to settle.

Please post thoughts on living at the University Forum apartments.
