Suggestions for school for photography major?

I want to major in photography. My aunt told me it's not about where you go, but where you work during the your summer off (internships). Except I don't want to settle for just any old school. I want to go to a school where I can learn more about my craft and if it's an art school a school where the art is "WOW" not just "Oh, that's nice." I know somethings can be self-learned, I just don't want to teach myself too many things the wrong way and then have to unlearn all those habits. I was going to SCAD, but I have changed my mind. I've also looked at Parsons, FIT, Ringling, and a few community colleges in the surrounding states. My goal is to focus on portrait photography. Is there a broader major I can study to make more money first and still use my skills as a photographer to make even more money??

Hi-Why did you change your mindon SCAD? Where did you decide to go? Our son is also applying to photography schools as well and visiting SCAD, Parsons and SVA in Nov.
Any input?

Rochester Institute of Technology - best in the world for photo

SUNY New Paltz - great photo major. One of my son’s friends who is a photo major already got a job working in a photo studio in NYC a few days a week through the school. I think she’s a junior.

Art Center, Pasadena CA… Check it out! I know more top notch pro shooters from there than any other school… and I did not attend, either.

RISD for fine arts, Parsons for more commercial work.

I’ve heard people who were wary about SCAD because it’s apparently not accredited. I don’t think this has too much of an effect in the art world in terms of respecting the degree, but may significantly alter their ability to offer financial aid if that’s an issue.
