suggestions for undergraduate internships

Can anyone suggest sites, books, etc. for finding undergraduate internships (especially summer). Have tried various college sites and googling "undergraduate internships" but haven't found really helpful ones. Am especially interested in internships for psych majors, so would probably include mental health issues, disorders, drug rehab, prisons, aging issues, etc. Thanks

are you in college yet? internships for undergrads are usually funneled through the career development office on campus or through the students major department. So, a psych major's opportunities would come from the psych dep't.
S and all his friends who are interning (from various colleges around the US) got their spots through their on campus networks.

I'm trying to help my D find something. Yes her school does have opportunities but she is looking for summer possibilities elsewhere, especially on the west coast (CA). This is for next summer, too. We're just doing research on programs now.

Well, I got a great internship as an undergrad by Googling "neuroscience internship".

But most people I know found out about internships through either school programs or through social networks.

Her school's career office should be able to help her no matter where she's looking. Has she made an appointment to talk about the internship search process?

Does her college have MonsterTrak or something similar? MonsterTrak (and similar programs) have tons of opportunities listed. If she's looking to do research she should ask professors.

If you google REU psychology internships you will come up with many options. REU is sponcered by NSF and pays undergrads to do research at different univ. SHe can look into this for next year. She will have to apply in March.

There was also this site
Psychology Summer Internship Links

Try Idealist.org. There she can find lots of social work-related internships, and from the topics you listed that sounds right up her alley. They are spread all over the country and generally are unpaid, but maybe her college has a grant program that will help her out.

I just checked idealist.org. It's great! Thanks for telling us about it!

Thanks. We found a really neat on working with marine mammals and cognitive development in San Diego but they needed a 4 month commitment :(

Sometimes the undergrad school will have alum contacts that might help. Have you tried that angle?

REU is great. Lots of happy former interns.
