Looking for some inputs for sons first visit to Alabama later this week.

He currently has meetings scheduled with a professor in the engineering department and one with the Honors College. In addition, he has planned tours of the Engineering facilities and one of the campus. Unfortunately due to scheduling we only have one day to visit.

Any other suggestions that we might want to consider squeezing in?

Take a look at the dorms to get a feel for where he would like to live.

Is he also scheduled for a regular campus tour? If so, I think the dorms are included now.

You might want to drive around some areas to get a feel for the college setting.

Right north of the campus is the RiverWalk (along the Black Warrior River). It’s a nice place to walk, jog, or bike…or just sit and relax.

Southwest of the campus is The Strip where many off-campus hangouts are.

Further west of campus is Downtown, where the Civic Center is and where there are more restaurants, etc.

Southeast of campus (at McFarland and 15th St) is Midtown Village…many students hangout there. It’s one of those outdoor “lifestyle shopping centers”…lots of restaurants, shops, etc.

If your son is into fitness or intramural sports, you might want to revisit the rec center. The tour will include a tiny visit, but if you’d like further info, return there for further info. Tell the people at the front desk that you’re on a Campus Visit, and they’ll let you in. Tell them what you’re interested in seeing and they’ll direct you.

Thank you gotjenks45 and mom2collegekids for some suggestions.
We are definitely looking forward to our visit.

Let us know how it goes.

:)
