To all those veteran blue devils out there, do you guys have any suggestions for what to do when visiting duke? Considering the campus is huge I'd like to make sure which places to definitely see.

I'm not a veteran by any means, but on ur visit u should go and see the specific department(s)' facilities that u are interested in majoring in. You can also take a tour w/ an admissions tour guide around campus to familiarize urself with the campus - its actually not as big as u might think, at least thats what I thought anyways when I visited. Go ahead and look at east and see if ppl will show u their dorms etc sicne all freshman live on east. You should also take a look at Bryan Center - which is like an all purpose dining, hanging out place, and their libraries - Perkins (main branch) on west and lily (on east). Also check out the food places like the Marketplace on East. There doesnt seem to be that much to do around Durham. Theres a mall to the north of Duke called Northgate Mall I believe but its not that big compared to malls around where Im from. U can go over to chapel hill which is just west of Durham and hang out around their main street area which has a lot of small shops and such. Then there's Raleigh which is the capital of NC - I didnt spend too much time there but theres some historic bldgs and prob museums and stuff if ur interested in taking a look at that. Back to the campus - theres also the Duke gardens which is pretty nice, its just south a little of west campus and theres also the Duke forest which I didnt get a chance to go see. Also, Duke has a marine lab campus on the coast if ur up for the drive and into marine bio stuff. I believe its in the town of Beaufort, NC, but Im not 100% sure.

Thanks a lot lee. I'm looking at mechanical engineering, so is there any type of information session or tour of just Pratt?

Im not sure about that since Im gonna be in Trinity and haven't looked into Pratt much. I'm sure if u go to the engineering bldg(s) ppl will be more than happy to show u the ropes. Also sit in on a class! I did that during Blue Devil Days and its really interesting, despite the fact that it was in a not so exciting class - Botany. But still it gives u a great sense of the learning environment at the school, even if u dont understand everything the prof is saying. The info session offered by the undergrad admissions is pretty general Im sure, its more of a basic overview. Also, if available, go and talk to the engineering advisors to learn a little more about ur speciific major, the courses, and just to ask any specific questions u have about the program in general.

As a ME prospect, you should tour the following 3 buildings:

1) CIEMAS - The brand new engineering complex
2) Teer Building - Where the engineering library / UNIX computer cluster are located
3) Hudson Building - The place where you take most of your engineering classes
