Suggestions on how to improve your college application in a short time

It isn’t that I haven’t done anything, but I haven’t done much during high school and I really want to improve it quickly so I can get into a decent college. I have been looking at some summer programs but I know that won’t be enough.
Does anyone know any programs (or websites to find programs) that I can join right now?
Quick volunteer opportunities or after school programs I can join right now?

Also, what kind of activities are most important to colleges? What looks better on an application?

@gbooper What are your interests?

Remember that activities and extracurriculars can only tip things in your favor if your grades and test scores are at least good enough to get you on the bubble. They cannot help if you are not strong enough academically to at least be in play for admission.

That being said, volunteermatch dot com may be helpful.

Good luck.

@paveyourpath I like art, science, history and music (I can also sew, but pretty badly)

@gbooper Not sure what you meant by “quick volunteer opportunities.” Did you mean something you can start getting involved in quickly (which is what I hope you meant)? Consider a volunteer position at a children’s museum. They tend to have a variety of programs that involve art/ science/ history and music. Find something you enjoy. It’s quality of the activities not quantity so just pick 1 or 2 that you can be excited about. Many college apps will ask you to elaborate on one activity that meant the most to you. With that in mind, your app will be stronger if you can speak passionately about something that really excites and is meaningful to you.
