Suggestions on what I should do?

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum to post this in but I was hoping to get a little advice. Eventually I'd like to start a business working as an independent money manager, and I'm trying to figure out what the best way is to get there. I need a job (as a trader, portfolio manager, etc) so I can get sponsorship for the Series 7 but I don't have sufficient work experience (I've just been a day trader for the past 4yrs) and from an employer's perspective I have a relatively useless degree in Social Science. I've been reading a lot of books on finance, but I don't think that will do much for me towards getting an interview...

So I'm considering getting a second degree, either something along the lines of a bachelors in finance or masters of science in management. From what I've read the MSM looks like its designed for people in my situation, but I don't know much about it and I don't know what schools I should be looking at. It looks like Duke has a good program but I lack the necessary prerequisites and I probably wouldn't get in anyway with a 3.3gpa and 1170gre score.... I'd love to do an MBA but I'd want to do it at HBS or Wharton and I know I can't get into either right now.

Sorry for the novel I just gave you guys to read. I don't really have anyone knowledgeable to talk to about this so I was hoping you all might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks a lot!

Masters in Finance might be a better option than the MSM. Don’t know though.

Thanks Japher!

Try and get an analyst position at a hedge fund or bank and take some math classes at a local college so you can have a social science and analytical position. Is your “career” just daytrading right now?

Yeah, for now it’s day trading & swing trading. After I graduated I moved home so my expenses are very low.

That’s a good suggestion, I was actually looking at job listing earlier today for a junior investment analyst position at a hedge fund in NYC. I could care less about actually going back to school, I can learn whatever I want on my own but I’ve sent my resume to a lot of different places and haven’t heard back from anyone yet so I was thinking additional credentials may be necessary. I’ll keep trying though, I’ll send my resume out to a new batch of employers this weekend. Thanks derivativex!
