Suggestions on where to apply...

Hi! Okay, so I'm considering NYU, Berkeley, and Stanford (I know, high high reach), but I want some other schools to consider.

Northwestern, George Washington. Missouri Columbia is great for journalism but I'm not sure about IR.

In addition to Erin's Dad suggestions, I'd add Tufts, UWashington, URochester, and Grinnell...

What kind of school are you looking for? Are you serious about NYU, I think many people love the idea of NYU but it takes a very certain type to actually enjoy it for college.

I am definitely serious about NYU.

I have lived in big cities my whole life (one million residents or more), and I don't think I could handle a small town. Also, I've seen pics of the different campuses, and it looks like just the place I'd like to be. I am sort of against the Ivy schools because they tend to have a huge impact on a person. When the first thing someone hears is that you went to Harvard, it's not exactly comforting. I also love the fact that the school is close to the U.N. embassy and that its students are involved with current political affairs.

The only thing that really worries me is housing and the distance. I have heard horror stories about NY real estate prices, and I don't even know if they let freshmen live off campus (most major universities don't, and that is one of my parents' conditions). The distance from home is a little too far. My parents really like the idea of a California college because it's seriously close to Nevada, and we can make it work.

You should look at Barnard- you would be able to take any classes at Columbia that you wanted. In California, look at Pomona, Claremont McKenna, and Occidental.
