Suggestions on which schools I should apply to?

Hello all,

I will hopefully be transferring from my current regional state university for the fall semester. I will be a Junior transfer with a GPA of 3.8 (hopefully a bit better) and I am majoring in Biology. My HS SAT was 1990, and my GPA was a 3.76. I will continue to major in Biology upon transferring to my new school.

I will have two great professor recs. One from a professor who has taught me in class and served as my research mentor. The other from the director of our Honors college (who has also taught me).

My EC’s are as follows:

  • 500+ hours of bench research (with poster presentations at a state and national level conference)
  • 50+ hours of volunteering with refugees to improve access to healthcare
  • 30+ hours coaching elementary school age refugee children in an after school sports program
  • 30+ hours volunteering as an english tutor for refugees
  • 50+ hours worth of TA/Facilitation for a first year honors course

Some things I am looking for (hopefully has some, doesn’t need all) :
-Metropolitan area
-culturally diverse
-sense of community (traditions, spirit, personal)
-passionate/involved/informed student body
-opportunities to invest in the community
-off campus entertainment (beaches, mountains, cities, orchestra, theatres, concert venues, sporting events, museums)

-med school
-research opps
-academically rigorous

Also, the school needs to me able to meet full or close to full demonstrated need. ***

There are a ton of schools that I would love to apply to, but I am having trouble narrowing the list to one that is reasonable. I would love any advice that you guys have for me. Thanks!

Here are some schools I was thinking of:
-UF, UVA, UNC, NYU ($$$), USC, EMORY, VANDERBILT, GEORGETOWN, CORNELL, TUFTS, PENN, COLUMBIA, ROCHESTER, CMK, COLGATE, W&L, BOSTON COLLEGE

Rochester sounds like a good match for you. They do meet full demonstrated need.
