Suggestions?

Hi. I am a Sophomore at Purdue University and I was hoping to transfer schools. I am majoring in Management but for my first semester I took engineering courses. I had a really bad roommate and I only managed a 3.0(2A's,B,2C's) in my first semester and a 3.2(2A's,2B's,C) taking management related courses. I am sure that my first semester of sophomore year will be 3.6 or better and I am in Student Government. I really want to go to Berkeley(I am a CA resident) but I was also looking into Michigan. I wanted to know if you guys had suggestions as to other schools I might apply to(that have Management as majors which I have found is not as common of a major as I thought) and my chances at Berkeley or Michigan. My desire is to just go to the best school I can. Thanks in advance for your comments.

if HAAS is where you wanna be at Berkeley than it will be a reach. they look CC students first then 4 year school transfers, but theres no harm in trying. go to the HAAS site: haas.berkeley.edu and it will give you transfer statistics, avg GPA, and so on. you also need to make sure that your taking the required courses or they wont even look at you. im not too sure about mich.. good luck

Thanks xferstd. Any other suggestions or opinions?

Nobody else has comments for me? Am I not providing enough information for comments?

bump...sorry I really would like opinions on my situation...

Well, to be honest I just see a couple problems with your current situation. Since you're taking mostly management courses, transferring to a liberal arts college may be a problem (if you're interested). However, it looks like you're interested in the b-schools at UMich and Cal. Cal, like xfer said, is very hard to transfer into OOS, and Haas is EXTREMELY difficult to get into even in-state. As for Michigan, Ross is on a 3-year BBA program now (I believe - correct me if I'm wrong) so I don't think you could transfer in after completing sophomore year at your current college. You could always try to get into Michigan's general college, but then again your courseload is not really that of a liberal arts student. Add to that the fact that Ross is really tough to get into and, like Cal, is a state school, and these schools become reaches. Out of state transfers generally have a tougher time at state schools - particularly good state business schools. If I were you, I'd raise your GPA and consider good b-schools at a private university...I really think they'd be a little easier to get into than Ross/Haas. I'm talkin a/b Stern, Marshall...I dunno, anyone else have any other suggestions.

I think you'd do best by raising your GPA and applying to private b-schools instead. State b-schools (at least the top ones you want into) are really tough to transfer into...especially OOS.

Thanks for your opinion brand_182. I don't have any particular financial problems so I would not mind going to a private school. I am thinking that NYU would be one of the schools I would consider. I was thinking that I might want other options too and I looked at U Chicago and Northwestern but neither have Management as majors if I am not mistaken. Penn I would consider a pretty big reach. USC I would prefer not going because my dad went there...if possible I want to go to a better school. What are some schools that come to mind that are good schools and has Management as majors?

I don't think you could go wrong with NYU Stern and you've got a good shot. You're right about Wharton...pretty big reach for nearly anyone. Chicago and Northwestern just have Econ and would probably frown upon your courseload. Perhaps UNC-Chapel Hill would be of interest. They've got a very good b-school and I don't think it's as hard to get into as a transfer (but you have to stay within the general "college" for a semester before transferring into the b-school). Notre Dame may be worth a look too...I know the college overall has around a 30% acceptance rate; not sure a/b the b-school.
