Suggestions?

I've heard different things about the presence of "straight-edge" kids at Wesleyan. I'm definitely unique and don't fit a specific stereotype, but I don't drink or do drugs and I prefer hanging out with friends to partying.

Is there a certain place I should live to find others like me (other than a sub-free dorm)? Are there even others like me? I know people at Wesleyan respect each other's decisions, but honestly, if I don't want to drink or do drugs, will I find a crowd to hang out with on weekends (and weeknights, for that matter?)

Answer: Yes.

There is tons tons tons to do socially without doing drugs/drinking. Freshman year I didn't drink at all, and I had an amazing year. You don't need to live anywhere special - you'll settle down into the right crowd to be friends with, regardless of where you live. Don't stress about it! :)

at wes for a weekend and and saw many kids at parties not drinking or smoking. everyone was really nice, having fun- no pressure...just normal kids hanging out

I think one thing you should keep in mind is that at Wesleyan, it's totally normal to be at a party (or just hanging out casually) while people are drinking without drinking yourself. No one will think that's weird. From what I've heard about some other schools, the sub-free social life is almost entirely separate. That's not the case here, and I think that's really cool.

Yup, I concur with jumble_j and beachluver. :) Social options are never limited by the fact that you don't drink.
