suicidal schedule or not?

thank you.

This is… pretty tough. Especially for your first semester. Should probably drop one.

well first of all, you must have a ton of those AP credits lol
but yea i agree
that looks tough for a freshman

I don’t agree. From reading your background, you should be fine.

You might be challenged, but it won’t be that bad.

“Background” as in a bunch of AP classes? We all know how well those prepare you for the real world-- err… college classes.

It’s first semester, you should take it easy. Take into acct. that you’re going to be making new friends, adjusting to living, etc. First semester people always overestimate their abilities.

Contrary to what most people are telling you, it should be possible. However, if you’ve never taken a real math course (high school courses don’t count, I mean one that uses theory), then MATH 2230 might be a bit of a shock to you.

He’s taking 221, which isn’t bad. POSSIBLE and COMFORTABLE are completely different things. Why overload yourself now when there’s no rush?

I say go for it. If you don’t fight it, you won’t be remembered." Achilles lol
The harder classes get the more you’ll get into them; the more you feel better about yourself; you’re there to learn and learn at the highest level possible. Learn it and kill it, I say. I do some suicidal stuff myself and it feels GREAT!! lol

Yeah, go for it. Your schedule looks great for a first semester freshman. Cornell’s very, very easy. Don’t even bother with studying; it’s a waste of time.

Depends on what you want to be remembered for.

To clarify, to be remeberred as a philosopher–lover of knowledge. I do not like it when students take classes to boost their GPA rather than learn! Rememberance does not necessarily have to be from the outside world, as much as it could be resembling a sort of self-pride, and self-satisfaction.

On the other hand, if you take classes to only learn, do badly, and basically don’t care about your GPA, your future isn’t looking too bright either.

It’s an ambitious schedule for your first semester. It’s definitely not suicidal, but your ability to handle it depends on you adapting to a college work-ethic and lifestyle immediately. If you were in your 2nd year or above, it wouldn’t really be a special schedule at all.

I am pretty sure you are where you are for a reason. With dedication and resiliance many doors of opportunity opens. Still if you want to spend more time outside of closed doors studying, then drop some classes, but I do not recommend it. It is a fact that sometimes one has to be reasonable, but it is another fact that actions become habits. If you start strong, you’re more likely to develop the sort of work ethic needed to succeed. Trust me, with dedication most things are possible.

Or because of legacy, athletes, AA, etc. College is about learning sure, but first semester/year is also about adjusting, making new friends. If you want to be a (seeing as you are Chinese, zbn) 书呆, go ahead and do it. But plans usually fall apart when you set ambitions too high. You should take it easier first semester and try to up the level after you’ve become adjusted.

Not suicidal at all.

If you are very confident about your own abilities, why not give it a shot?
It’s college, where everyone is trying out new things. Even if the schedule turns out to be too much, just drop a class. But yea, I believe if you put effort into everything you do, whatever schedule is possible.

Cornell is excellent because there is an add/drop deadline.

There are two dates that you need to remember: The Add Course deadline and the Drop Course deadline.

The Drop deadline is self explanatory: It’s the last day that you can drop a course and have nothing appear on your record. Dropping before this date means that it would look as if you never took the course at all.

The Add deadline is also pretty simple to understand: It’s the last day that you can add a course.

Which means, if you truly feel overwhelmed by your schedule - as, you don’t know what will happen in college(fall head over heels in love, join a frat/sorority, live, breathe, and eat the Daily Sun, etc…), you can drop the courses you don’t want to take, and if you want, before the add deadline, add more courses.

Just be careful, however since the minimum amount of credits you need to take as a full time student is 12 credits. If you drop classes after the add deadline, you may not be able to replace them with easier courses to make up for the lost credits.

not suicidal by any means. It seems like a pretty decent schedule. You may be a little busy around final times and stuff, but it seems okay.

However, I do agree alot of the posts on here. It’s your first semester. I remember my first semester is literally my best time at Cornell. I met people that I still live with and hang out with on a regular basis. You’ll never get a chance to meet so many new people and just have fun anymore (especially since upper classman are more clicky and do not live on a centralized campus.)

Right now it doesn’t look bad, but if you also add in FWS, that’s a pretty annoying schedule…
