suicide?!

njoy, I’m a history major attending fall 09 UCLA. I’m assuming you want to take this heavy course load that fall? it seems the hard classes are your pre-reqs… hmm. I think you should focus on those and get As, you can get the polysci and science requirement done later girl (or guy haha).

The title name threw me off, damn you!

missy why did you take calc when its not required for ur major… the highest u need is either college algebra or stats

^ I have no idea. I tested into Calculus and thought I could pull it off. It looks better on the transcript, etc.

I took 9 classes last fall and got a 4.0.

hah yeah that does look better. actually in ur case, since u tested into calculus, it would look bad if u took the lower math imo

yeah sophee…im a girl haha

and yeah im taking calc 1 because its required for my sociology majors at UCLA

For me it would be completely doable. Then again, I don’t work and all I have to do is go to school, besides doing Karate…but whatever you choose, good luck. Don’t rush if you feel that you won’t be able to take the heavy work load, what matters are your grades, especially since you plan on going to UCLA!

Good luck!! [:

Does your school not offer finite math? I chose finite over calc (of course) and it was super easy -the same as Algebra II in high school.

I’m also taking like, twenty-one units next semester. But the classes are not hard. Women’s Studies, Sociology of Ethnic Society, Speech, Geography, Counseling (to raise my GPA, haha), Business, and Statistics. Yay.

It all depends on the # units and NOT the # of classes. Since the # units determines amount of time to put into the class.

Right now I’m taking.
Linear algebra -3 units with an A
Differential eqn’s -4 units with an A
Quantum mechanics -5 units with an A
Engineering circuits -3 units with a B
Communications -3 units with an A
Doesn’t seem like all that much but it’s essentially taking 4 math classes at the same time. My communications class kept me sane throughout the semester. I really wish that engineering classes were worth 5 units.

I took 7 classes my Fall 08’ semester, and I completed the UC application/essay’s, and received all A’s (93-98%). On top of that I was working, commuting to several schools, and doing extracurricular activities.

The way I pulled this off, was managing my time wisely. I have a BIG whiteboard I can’t miss when entering my room, and I always update what is due, when it’s due, office hours, and when I can study. It worked quite well for me, and I believe if I needed to take a class or two more, I may have been able to.

Good luck, and I hope you figure it out!

the whiteboard idea sounds great! lol ill probably go out and purchase one of those lol. and i forgot who asked but no i cant take infinite math instead of calc 1, cause its needed for my major not just ge. my major much is impacted so theres no way imgonna skip out on a pre req lol

and thanks for all your crazy stories  letting me know IT CAN BE DONE,9 CLASSES!!! OUCH LOL

i do work, ecs, hsp, student ambassador, tutor.

but its all well worth it! best of luck to everyone

last semester i took 25 units and only got 1 B, the rest were A’s. im taking 21.5 lets see how i do during finals lol

I think that as long as you have good time organization, 20+ units is definately doable even with math/science classes.

I took 25 units = 8 classes and got a 4.0 while working 20 hours a week and going to church all day on sundays. make sure you study weeks before finals cuz that’s where lots of ppl screw up. finals were all like…together… one time i took 3 finals back to back in one day, but survived with a 4.0 cuz i prepared a week or two earlier and not the night before or the morning of

well im taking 7 classes = 21 units (maximum), 4 of those classes being honors.

i have all A’s in those classes so far. I have 2 jobs and 1 internship

its doable, IF you can manage your time wisely

i wish we had more than 24 in a day lol. but its doable…thanks for all the input!

Last Fall I took:

Econ 1B A 3 units
Engl 1B B 3 units
Math 1B A 5 units
Span 3 A 4 units
Human 6 A 3 units
Phys 2A A 3 units
LIR 10 A 1 unit
Total 22 units

With a 3.86 GPA

ok so the limit at my cc is 18 units…is that just for my college? i have to petition/coun approval to take more units.

so i wanted to know if anyone had to get the approval…and how they went about it…help!

njoy, you just go in and see a counselor real quick, and he/she will fill out a form that allows you to go over the unit count. I’ve never heard of anyone having much trouble with this.
