I'm transferring and I'm trying to figure out how to rank my housing application. I'm used to being pretty independent, so I thought about the apartments, but I don't think that would be a good way to meet people... I think the suites look awesome, like a combo of apartment and dorm life, but I've heard the suites are farther away on campus... Plazas look really nice, but they are more expensive, and I hear less social (and I'm worried I'd meet less people since it looks like the rooms are only connected to private or shared bathrooms.) Also, I know it's hard to get a single, but I really like having privacy occasionally, and will probably have company fairly often...

Any advice?

I know exactly what you mean....I'm hoping to get a single in either a plaza or an apartment, if not, I'll room with friends and drive on in. While I love walking and am very active, having to trodge up that hill everytime to get something to eat, if you forget a book......to take a nap sounds like an incredible waste of time. Time that I could be doing other things, frankly....

and yes, I completely agree that 1400 a month for a single in a plaza is incredibly steep. You could do a lot with that kind of money "outside" of Westwood...lol. I just don't want to have to worry about money when I'm in college....and I haven't depended on my parents for anything in over 10 years, so that's out...lol

Advice: Join clubs, organizations and people with common interests within and outside of your major....that's what I plan on doing. Living in a "dorm environment" doesn't necessarily mean that you'll want to associate with the people that you're living with and living next to. Not that you would be anti-social of course, but I think that there are some great friends to be found among common interests and ambitions....

Personally, that's what I plan to do. It's what I've done at city college, and it's really worked out for me. I would say......"plaza"-1, suite-2, apartment-3 (however this is the cheapest option, minus the meal plan).

I figured it out and I think the meal plan is over 500 a month. I'm a cook and I could easily make great meals for myself for less than 80 a month. lol

Thanks for the input!

im in the same pickle now, but I couldn't find accurate prices per month for the different areas we can choose to live. anyone have a link or can point me in the right direction? I've already checked the official ucla site, but it doesn't give much info about pricing. thanks

oh, it should be on the housing page, there are links on the right hand side, and there's an impromptu list to comparison on the New Bruins site under the Housing application....

Only the University Apartments-North are given on a per-month basis, the other possibilities are on a "yearly" basis......as far as the costs they give you....
