Suites vs. Regular Dorms

Can you guys go over the basic advantages and disadvantages of each? Which do you prefer - looking back would you have rather roomed in the other?

Some are given ofcourse like the communal bathroom which sucks.

Thanks for the help.

Forgot to add i'm both talking about coed and single sex dorms

I'm in one of the honors dorms at my school... which are pretty much the only dorms on campus to have communal bathrooms.

man it rules to be smart and motivated.

on the flipside, I won't have to clean the bathroom.
and the little suite bathroom would probably turn into a (disgusting) war zone once it's shared by four girls all hurrying out in the morning.

I am most likely going to be living in dorms set up as a suite--two doubles sharing one little area with 2 half bathrooms (one with sink and shower, one with sink and toilet).

This sounds great to me (though I actually would enjoy a communal bathroom) but if I was a girl it would probobly suck because of the time constraints of a single bathroom.

at many schools suites are like apartments without a kitchen, while dorms are the classical long hallway with lots of rooms on it.

For frosh the traditional dorms tend to be a better choice because they're much more social. You'll know most people on the floor within a few days, and its quite common for large groups to go down to meals together. People are just always around. Living in a suite as a frosh you may not meet people living even a few doors away since suites don't have public common areas.

At my school (USC), the suites are arranged as 3-4 double rooms sharing two private bathrooms. The private bathrooms are cleaned by the university staff.

Plus, the main suites building is part of the international residential college, so there is a good opportunity for social interaction with other suite folks.
