SUMaC 2016?

Rejected. It sucks because I put so much time into the application, getting recommendations and answering all the questions. My 5th summer camp rejection, but this whole process has given me lots of humility. Good luck to the rest of you!

decisions are supposed to be released today?!? :open_mouth: has anyone received an email? I logged into the decisions portal, but it doesn’t give me anything.

Even I’m waiting for them desperately. It’s lol 16th of April here and still decisions aren’t out.

I just got accepted to program ii, but my friend who also applied did not have any results yet.
Although I really can’t decide between sumac and Ross

Can you post your stats? I got rejected, so I was just wondering…

How do you get your sumac decision?

Where did you guys get decisions? I looked on the decisions portal, but there was nothing new there.

Because I haven’t received an email or gotten a decision on my Stanford portal :frowning:

Did everyone (who was rejected) get a follow-up email about applying to Stanford’s other summer institute programs?
edit: never mind, I realized the summer institute programs are part of their summer college thing.

I just got wait-listed today. I thought I had a pretty strong application though :frowning:
Asian male junior.
Stats: GPA: 3.9ish? (I don’t know because I’m an international student)
SAT: 2200, PSAT: 1490/1520 (2015)
Doing Calc BC in school, taking the exam in May. Also taking SAT II Math 2 in June.
EC: Math Circle, math club president, math tutor, Math Olympiad organizer, Math video tutorial maker.
Awards: Multiple Canadian contest first place winner in my province and national honour roll for many others (in total like 10 or so?), invited to write the CMO (1 of 30 people in Canada), AMC 12 score: 105, didn’t get to write AIME because of system and time conflicts, top mathematician in my grade.
Recommendation: I don’t know, but I got my math teachers from this year and last year to write it, and they think I’m really good.
Response: I don’t really know. I showed a lot of passion for math, (which I really do have), and a strong desire to be part of the program.
Solutions to problems: I finished all 10, and I feel that I have the right answers for most if not all of them. (except maybe 8b. I asked about 3 and they said there was a problem with the question, so I just wrote my answer based on my understanding of the problem)
People who got in please give up your spots? :stuck_out_tongue:

@wrxy123456 i also got waitlisted :(( do you know the chances of getting off waitlist?

@tauisgood i received an email

Hey guys,

Just working on solving the problem set for now. Wanted to get to know others here who are applying to SUMaC as well.

Also, I had one question – Is it fine if we upload handwritten solutions or do we have to type them out using MathJax?

@ishaynal Nope, probably really low chance.

@JuicyMango
I am a sophomore female, finished 10/10 (although there were one part of a question that I was unsure of)
Taking calc + stats, 95+ in both classes. Taken SAT Math II (790). Math award from my school last year.
Our school does not offer GPA or grade rankings, but I believe I am top 5 in our grade.

I think it’s way more competitive for guys than girls. My guy friend who applied as a junior (who I believe has a better stats than I do - AIME, math club head, etc) got waitlisted.

Also I think I am going to Ross instead of SUMaC - that may leave space for some waitlists.

@tybae Thank you for sharing your stats! I do believe girls get a bit of advantage in the admissions process, but its because there tend to be more guy applicants and they probably want to encourage more girls to do math. But even so, your stats are still great so you deserve it :).

I think they placed a lot of importance on the problems because I only did 7/10 of them and I wrote hasty/incomplete solutions because I procrastinated the problem set. I got a 2380 on the SAT (800 math), 790 math 2, took AP calc BC as a sophomore and got a 5, taking AP stats right now, founder and president of Mu Alpha Theta at my school, etc. I think my teacher recs were good, both knew me pretty well. But I should’ve done the problems :/.

just wondering, when do accepted applicants have to let them know of your decisions?

Lol yeah problem 3 was really weird. Anyways, I got rejected too. Don’t feel bad though! According to a secondary email I received (its probably in your spam folder), the acceptance rate was only 8% this year. Remember, that this 8% is out of the elite math students that apply. Congrats to all those that made it in! I can post my stats if people want it.

I did all the problems except for 9 (rushed through it) because I was trying to make the deadline. Turns out it wasnt even a problem though since I live on the east coast and we’re 3 hours ahead.

@plyslife I didnt receive a secondary email (maybe because I was waitlisted) do you mind posting what it said? I didn’t know so many people applied to sumac :o I thought it would be like 15% acceptance rate but dang 8%
