Was just interested who is applying to SUMaC and how much of the admissions exam you guys were able to complete
I did all of them but I don’t know if my answers are legit or not. Hope they understand my solutions
I did 1-8, 9a, 9b (except n=5), 9c (except n=5), 10
Solved everything except for n=5 (9b), I think I messed up #5 though
What are your guys’ stats? 132 AMC/7 AIME here, IDK how that compares to other applicants though since I haven’t made usa(j)mo
I was bad on amc but I have got 5 on calc bc, calc ab, and I currently have 97% in capstone math class
@llama9 I attended SUMaC last year! i didn’t qualify for AIME last year or this year (missed it by 3 points QQ), but last year a good part of the people there hadn’t either… I don’t think they consider competitions AS much as other programs will.
@fengtasy17 So is the pset the most important part of the application? If so I’m kind of RIP - I think I only solved 8.75/10 correctly
Also, how much are teacher recs weighted, if you know?
@llama9 check your pm’s! i had 2 recs – one from my math teacher and one summer camp counselor from the year before i know my math teacher one was super great… but i’d guess that they’re not SUPER important – the pset and essays are much more important
do u guys know when the result come out?
I think the results will be emailed this Friday, April 7.
OMG OMG its april 7
what time will results be up?
i pulled 2 1/2 all nighters on the problem set and did everything except 9c for n=5… and ran out of time to write good essays. Because of the time i spent on this app, my marks dropped and my math mark isn’t 100 anymore
may the odds be ever in our favor
Results are out! I got accepted
congratulations llama9!! can i ask how many problems did you solve in the admission test?
Uh basically solved everything but 5a and 9b, with a minor hole in my solution to #3. From what I’ve heard, the essays/teacher rec are weighted more heavily than they are in other math camps though.
WTF i solved everything except 9c, had 100%s on my report card and 1550 SAT and didn’t even get on the waitlist. FML Now i have nothing to do in the summer except study for next year’s classes
What did you write on your essays?
I hear they weigh essays/teacher rec more heavily, so that may have been a reason. Sorry you got rejected
My essays were usually 1-2 paragraphs. I tried to emphasize my passion for math and collaborating with others, so I talked about ARML a lot. I can get you more specific details if you DM me later.
