Summary of Wharton SAT Stats (of CC's 2014 Applicants)

So, yes. This is what I'm doing with my Sunday night- it's much more interesting than Meno! Please don't criticize me for focusing too much on standardized test scores. Yes, I realize that much more goes into college admissions.

Nevertheless, here are some averages calculated based on the posts of last year's CC RD applicants to the Wharton School. (In parentheses are the highest and lowest scores that went into the average.) Please note that these averages are likely very skewed because a) these kids had to be CCers in order to have posted, b) some CCers who were accepted with lower scores may not have posted at all, and c) on the internet, there's no way to verify the reported scores. Nevertheless, I found this little exercise quite interesting (...and intimidating).

Average SAT score of ACCEPTED applicants:
2306
(2060, 2400)

Average M score of ACCEPTED applicants:
786.67
(760, 800)

Average CR score of ACCEPTED applicants:
773.33
(720, 800)

Average W score of ACCEPTED applicants:
800
(800, 800)

Average SAT score of REJECTED/WAITLISTED applicants:
2342.5
(2220, 2400)

Average M score of REJECTED/WAITLISTED applicants:
787.5
(750, 800)

Average CR score of REJECTED/WAITLISTED applicants:
772.5
(710, 800)

Average W score of REJECTED/WAITLISTED applicants:
782.5
(760, 800)

Average ACT score of ACCEPTED applicants:
32.5
(31, 34)

Again, these are averages of only applicants who posted their results on last year's Wharton RD thread.

Looks like SATs mean the same amount as your mother.

edit: just kidding…

What’s the sample size?

^ about 15- another factor which detracts from the numbers’ credibility. There were very few posters on the RD thread last year who had applied to Wharton. Many more had applied to the School of Arts & Sciences.

Still, it’s funny that the average SAT score of rejected/waitlisted applicants was higher than that of accepted applicants…

Right?! I found that odd, too. Either the Penn adcom has a latent form of Tufts Syndrome, or CC attracts high-scorers with blah applications.

think about it this way: a sample size of 15 out of 800-1000 applicants. very very very VERY unrepresentative

if u have time, can u do this for the school of arts and sciences.

^yeah can you?
it would be really appreciated!!

@ IAmABeast and hopful-

I can try! Haha. I have fairly a lot to accomplish after school this week, but I’ll try and post the CAS averages when I have a few minutes. In the meantime, I can offer you some consolation: I’m friends with a female who was accepted to CAS- from New Jersey- with a 2100 composite superscore last year. I think the breakdown was something like 700 M, 680 CR, 720 W, and she indicated that she wants eventually to be a lawyer. So, even with a mainstream career interest and a suburban background and “low” SAT scores, it’s still possible to be admitted to Penn. :)
