Has anyone heard from Heifetz?

Rejection from tanglewood. What other camps are still taking high schoolers?

Anyone been to Garth Newel Chamber Music Program? I just got in for viola

[Summer Study Program - Bowdoin International Music Festival](http://www.summermusic.org/summer_study.php)

Northwestern: I think the students who reapplied from last year have heard; they are probably waiting to collect results before offering admission to the next batch. If you did not get a rejection, you are probably still in the running, but you might want to contact the office.

Thank you, glassharmonica. I will contact the office. If you have gone to Heifetz, would you share your experience? Does it have a friendly environment for high schoolers? My D has applied for cello.

northwestern, sending a PM

Well, I got waitlisted at Brevard, but I was accepted into BUTI this summer, so I’m going there on oboe for the workshop and the young artists’ wind ensemble.

@ampoboe
Northwestern has a summer program called the National High School Music Institute (NHSMI) that I went to last year- I know it has a later application due in late April, so it’s not too late to apply. I highly recommend it, especially if you are thinking of applying to the school. All wind players are in wind ensemble and do chamber music, but you can also audition to be in the orchestra and everyone takes music theory and history classes.

My daughter ( freshman violinist) was accepted to National Repertory Orchestra a few weeks ago, and told them she would come. She has not yet returned the contract or paid the deposit they require. Today she was accepted at another program that she and I both think would be better for her at this point. But if she sends a rejection to NRO at this point, will she be blacklisted from them forever? She may want to do NRO in the future. Any thoughts on this?

Hi,

This was sent to me over the weekend and I’m posting it here FYI. Sounds like an interesting camp and the deadline is May 1.

Dear music colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the launching of the Sutter Creek Summer Music
Festival. The Festival will take place on July 11-25, 2010 in two weekly
sessions in picturesque Sutter Creek, located in
California’s historic gold rush country. We are currently recruiting
advanced string players and pianists, college-age and older, to participate
in the program. Those admitted will work with tenured members of some of
the world’s finest symphony orchestras, including the San Francisco
Symphony, for advanced training in chamber music, orchestral skills, and
optional solo playing in a master class format. Participants will perform in
public concerts of chamber music and as members of the Festival Orchestra in
which our distinguished faculty will serve as principals. This is a unique
opportunity for your students and associates to play alongside and learn
from symphony players who have made it to the top of their profession.

Full details about the Festival, including faculty and staff bios and
application procedures can be found on the Festival’s web site:

[Sutter Creek Summer Music Festival- Home](http://www.scsmf.org).

Deadline for applications is May 1. Please forward this message to those in
your program who might be interested.

This is my first post.

My son just got his acceptance letter from Interlochen for Intermediate Piano, second session. This was a last minute decision. We threw together a DVD on Jan. 30 and sent it off by overnight mail. He did not apply to any other camp. He is in 8th grade, but has never gone to an overnight music camp. He has done other overnight camps, but the only music one was a chamber music day camp two years ago. I think he has mixed feelings about it even though he has played piano for over 7 years and performs regularly in things like the MTNA division competitions. A benefit will be that he has an older cousin who will be there for the 6-week writing program, and we are also planning to go out there for last week as a vacation and to watch some performances.

I know that Interlochen gets great reviews, but what do they do for kids so far away from home for a long time? Are there things we need to watch out for? I apologize if you have already discussed these things. I’ve tried to read many of the threads, but I wasn’t very methodical about it. Should I post this on another thread?

There’s an Interlochen parents’ Yahoo newsgroup. It has been extraordinarily useful for our family for years! You should either get directions on how to join in the written info from Interlochen (which may be forthcoming - have you received this?) or you can phone them or search through Interlochen’s website [Home | Interlochen Center for the Arts](http://www.interlochen.org) and get info about the group. You can post your questions and also search through the extensive archives of messages on all topics about Interlochen. This is an outstanding source of info, aside from Interlochen’s written info and the website. Come to think of it, you may have your own group for the intermediate level (we have always been at high school level).

Thanks lateparty,

Nothing jumps out at me between the health forms and the apparel order forms (!) that arrived today. I’ll keep looking. I noticed that there is a form showing “Intermediate Division Electives”. Do these classes fill up quickly? Do you have to get your selection in early?

PianoParent, these are the Interlochen titled threads. I did not look for info in unrelated posts. You may or may not have seen them all.

Got 1st alternate for Kent-Blossom…

Perhaps my violinist daughter will see you at Kent Blossom, because that is where she is heading instead of NRO.

Bluepearl, I was at Kent/Blossom last summer and had so much fun! intense chamber music. I hope your daughter will also have a great time there.

Very cool! I hope I get the spot - They only take one bass.

yea, I remember there was one bass player and I played two pieces with him. Schubert “Trout” and Dvorak bass quintet. I play the violin… I hope you’ll get it!
