Hi, first off I KNOW 100% that admission requirements cannot be taken the summer prior to Fall enrollment. I'm not asking about that.

I'm asking does anyone know about or have experience taking summer courses just to take them? (for CSU or UC, still undecided) Will I still get units for them? Will the grades count toward my GPA?

I know it sounds crazy, my first thought was no way! I want to relax the summer before transferring. But now that I'm thinking about it, it wouldnt kill me to go to a 10-12 class M-Th and take a fun/interesting class, or a pre-req to an upper level course I'll be taking at my next school. I've always wanted to take a business class, or a harder level Bio (lecture only!) I'm not sure though, still kicking the idea around, but I definitely wouldn't do it if I did not receive units/gpa boost/or pre-requisite completion out of it.

Oh and the classes I was looking at don't end until 7/26, while most school's deadline for final transcripts are 7/16 ish...
Any thoughts?

It still counts towards your GPA. It’s nice because most of the classes are only 6 weeks, but still 3-4 units. It looks good that you are taking classes during the summer, regardless of what they actually are or if they apply to your major. I took nutrition and a couple irrelevant ones last summer and they pretty much were only there to bump my GPA. The final transcript may be due earlier, but perhaps you can give them a transcript or notice with your current grade in the class? If not, just call the school and ask about that. I’m sure they would understand. Good luck!

I’m going to have to disagree with the above poster. It will NOT count toward your UC GPA. The minute you enter UC from a CCC, your GPA begins anew.

Additionally, any classes you take the summer prior to transferring will likely not be transferred by your UC without approval. Why? Because when you are admitted, the admissions office specifically chooses which of your completed classes they will transfer. You will need to discuss that with the admissions office at your UC specifically.

Hmm okay, Thank You both! I will have to look into it further
