!!!summer 2008!!!

I'm currently a junior and I am wondering what's the best thing to do this summer before I apply for college. What can I do this summer so i can strengthen my upcoming college application and appeal to college admission office?

Is there anyting except Internship?

There is a plethora of opportunities available. Most colleges won't specifically look at what you did during the summer, but it is a good time to do something exciting and interesting that you love, which may set you apart.

I think the forum would be most helpful if you tell us a little bit about your current activities -are you in to music, sports, reading, cooking, drama, helping other people...... etc. ?

Personally, I always wished I had spent a summer abroad, and although actually colleges don't really see this as special (in fact it often denotes a privileged, easy life), I still wish I had done it.

Don't spend the summer studying- do try to to prep at least a little for the SAT. *Unless you've already taken it...

Find something that will add depth to your resume - be it job, internship, service, or classes. If you are interested in international relations, for example, consider learning a new language. Or checking with your local World Affairs Council for volunteer/internship opportunities.

Make it something consistent with what you are interested in.

Do something that's related to what u planned to portray urself in an essay and resume as.
But when I went to visit Korea, I went to the DMZ (Demilitarized zone b/w North and South Korea). Kinda risky, but, hey, I got to stand in North Korean ground for 2 minutes. haha. Unique also.
I also went to Beijing since I was going to be a business major and everyone knows China is becoming one of the major powerhouse in the world. Focused on the potential and briefly wrote them on my resume.

Make sure u have an unique experience. Be creative.
