Hey there,
I'm posting this question to ask about the competitiveness of admission to Interlochen's intermediate musical theatre workshop (the three-week program) next summer.
I come from a third world country where there isn't a musical theater major at performing arts colleges. I have complete no experience and training or any kind of background, it's just that I saw some DVD performances and thought it'd be great if I could try performing a musical. Then I stumbled upon Interlochen's programs (yeah very reputable but quite competitive I know), and on the website they say the three-week programs are for those with basic to moderate experience level. To those of you who have attended Interlochen summer camps, do you think the kids enrolled in the intermediate 3-week programs are professional? Do you think it is ever possible that someone like me will be accepted to the MT workshop?
Thanks heaps!

my daughter did the intermediate workshop, albeit several years ago. There was a range of experiences in the program. My D had sone quite a lot but did not wnat to commit to the entire summer so selected the 3 week program. THere were others who had been in junrio high productions but taken no sort of outside preparation or work. They were mosy definitely not professional.
I would suggest contacting the camp admissions folks about your situation and lack of ability to find training. Do you have experience singing? I would say from my DD’s experiences with Interlochen summer programs, it is heavily weighted towards singing, so if you have a nice voice and less experience you maybe OK.

go for it! You won’t get in if you don’t apply! Just be sure you have a good backup plan…
