Summer A 2012

Hey!
So I'm already looking to the future, and am pretty sure I want to do Summer A 2012, since you need a summer term anyways.
So this is my one and only chance to live on campus, since living "only" an hour away, my parents are making me live at home. They though agreed to let me have my campus experience by living on campus if I did Summer A!
here's my question: which dorm has only Summer A agreements? And which is best out of the ones who do?
Also are there a lot of students? and is it only upperclassmen since Freshman can't take Summer A when they enter university?

A related question: I hear people say Summer A, B or C. What’s the difference?

Summer A and B is 6 wks and summer B is 12 wks, if I’m not mistaking. Summer A and Summer C starts around May and Summer B starts in June.

And kelly, I can’t believe your parents are making you commute! Do they realize the gas prices these days?? I don’t even wanna use my car that much if given a choice, let alone commute! An hour is a long drive, IMO. And if you’re doing it everyday, that’s 2 hrs waste of gas. You’re gonna have to fill the tank like twice a week. I don’t know about you, but it costs me like 50 bucks to fill my tank. That’s a lot of money!

Yes I now Mizzxvii, but hey they’re the ones paying for gas, so it’s not my problem really haha. Plus I just got a new car BECAUSE of this, so in some way it’s a win for me (:

Mizzxvii, you have it slightly mixed up.

Summer A is the first 6 weeks. It starts about a week and a half after the end of the spring semester. This year it’s from May 16± to June 24.

Summer B is the last 6 weeks of the summer, starting the week after the Summer A session ends. That would be from June 27 to August 5 this year.

Summer C session is the entire 12 week summer term.

A few things to keep in mind, the A & B sessions being only 6 weeks are extremely time crunched. You’re going to class for 6 to 8 hours a week. If you are taking a science a lab gets added on top of that 2 days a week (for another 4+ hours).

If you are trying to enroll in the summer session as a incoming freshmen, you will most likely be forced into Summer B, as the starting time for classes for A & C sessions is typically before HS graduations. I guess there could be exceptions to that rule, though.

It’s almost impossible to do any more than 2 classes at a time for the 6 week classes, as they are so time intensive. If you can do the work they are worthwhile, because they are over in the blink of an eye.

Yea, I meant to say summer C is 12 wks. Thanks for clearing that up.

I took 2 classes over the summer. I think depending on the type of classes you take, it may not be all that bad.

Also I’ll be starting in Fall 2011 so I’ll be a “sophomore” when I get in.
So it’s hard to take more than 2 classes?
Also my question about dorms?

Ouch Kelly, I too lived “only” an hour away from campus, but pleaded with mom and did what I could financially to relocate onto campus. Mainly, I didn’t want to tack tons of miles onto my car – I’m still paying it off! Be sure to schedule yourself wisely at orientation! Perhaps try to get all of your classes into three days, if not two.

Can’t comment on the dorms during the summer. As for population, it’s still a little busy over the summer; nowhere near a ghost town.

Kelly, what some people do if they live so close, yet so far away, is to put all of their classes into a two day block, and, once they’ve met friends who live on campus, or as close as possible, begin staying the night at their house for the night between classes, and driving home after day 2.

You can take more than 2 summer session classes - that’s not very hard. But taking more than 2 classes during during only a 6 week term is very difficult.

I took 4 classes (13 credits) over the summer last year. 3 of the classes were 12 weeks long (C session), and 1 class was 6 weeks long (B session).

The C session classes aren’t that much different from a typical spring/fall class. They just move at a slightly quicker pace, and you will have longer class time each week. For example, a 3 credit class that meets twice per week during the spring/fall lasts for 1hr 15 minutes per class, but a class that is 3 credits during the summer C will meet for 1 hr 30 minutes (or maybe 1:45?) to make up the extra time.

Well I decided to do Mo-We-Fri on main campus for 3 classes, and then Tu-Th take 2 at Rosen (my major anyway) who’s only 30mins away

So does anyone know if I can live on-campus just for Summer A? and if so, which housing am I allowed?

Kelly, No you can’t get a dorm for only Summer A, you could for Summer B but most if not all will be freshman.

Oh really?? So why do they put rates for Summer A? I’m so confused!

Sorry Kelly, if they have rates for summer A, then I guess its available and I’m wrong!! I was under the impression that you could get a dorm for summer B…my apologies

Haha it’s okay! I emailed them and they said yes there is, I will know next spring which housing is available (lake Claire or towers or Nike/Hercules)
