Summer Abroad vs. Prestigious Math Program

Hi,
I'm interested in both a summer abroad and attending a prestigious math program. I plan to go into math and science related fields in college, so it would probably make more sense to attend the math program, but I can't help feeling like the summer abroad would be an amazingly fun experience. Please help me decide!

Go abroad. Math will always be there. The chance to go abroad not so much.

Depends on this “prestigious” math program. If it’s RSI, then you definitely go.

But in the end, it’s about what you like to do, not what a college likes to see. If you think you’d get more out of the summer abroad program, then choose that. If you really like math and want to go beyond the HS curriculum, then don’t go abroad.

Well the reason I’m asking is because to me, I feel like I could get an equally good experience out of both of them… it’s just that the experience would be good in different ways. So I was wondering what you CCers all thought? Personally, I feel like whichever one I choose won’t make a difference in terms of college admissions - do you guys agree or disagree?

Also, here are more specifics on the programs:
Going abroad - there are 2 programs. One is a volunteering abroad program and the other is an intensive language learning program.
Math - It’s not up to par with RSI but it’s on the level of Ross/PROMYS/etc.

Obviously your decision will depend a lot on your personal circumstances but having to Ross for two years I would strongly recommend it if and only if you want to spend most of your time while your at camp doing math. You should ask yourself what you enjoy more: working on math or learning about different languages and cultures. In terms of college admissions neither are likely to make a big difference so that shouldn’t be a main deciding factor.

Thanks, I’m still deciding but all of your posts really helped put things into perspective!
