Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) & AP/EA @ Carnegie-Mellon?

i got rejected from sams :frowning: i think it might have been because i didn’t have many science related ec’s, and no ap science/math course (school doesn’t offer them until junior year)…also not a URM

is there anyone who still didn’t get a letter yet, because I didn’t =[

congrats to those who got in!

I haven’t gotten a letter yet either(ap/ea), but congrats to those that got it :)

Do they send letters to all applicants or only the people who got in? Because sometimes, for interviews, for example, if people dont make it they just dont notify people.

sorry to hear that you didn’t get in luckymeeeee and goodluck to you guys who havent received your letters yet. can’t wait to see those who made it =) if anyone was wondering, i didnt get a letter yet.

Hi Rissa, congrat, are u a URM and/or low income family? Your stats look great. My S didn’t get it. His stats are okay, but not URM and middle income. Just wondering. thx

I’m Guyanese, I don’t know if that counts as URM? And our income bracket is ~90K.

Hi everyone!
I got my acceptance letter for the SAMS on the 4th. I’m really excited to go and hopefully we’ll meet up. I’m as surprised as many of you are. I don’t think my stats were particularly high. I’ve taken about 3 APs and every other course I had was an honors course and a few iT classes. My ECs were high as well. Wasn’t sure about my essays. I had about a week to work on my application because I got the brochure, application, and information rather late. However, I’m still humbled by this and am very thankful, especially for the recommendations from my AP language and biology teachers.
SAMS was my first choice, but I did not think I would get in. My backup plan was to just take a math course over the summer at my high school.

I got my letter today. Mine was postmarked on the 2nd and I live in georgia soo its about time! good luck to everyone… again lol congratulations chrgra =). are you a rising junior or senior?

@ambaturkey: rising senior and thanks same to you too!

Were the students who received acceptances to SAMS rising juniors or rising seniors? My D is a rising junior. She didn’t get in but has had AP Calc BC and Double Science this year and other APs. And extra curriculars, mathletes, etc., though no officer positions. She’ll try again next year. Not low income, but URM.

I didn’t get in :(.

But I got into TASP! hah.

popmom the people who reeived acceptances to SAMS are both rising juniors and seniors. They will have a different class for each grade and if im corect i belive its about 20 positions for each grade level or less. Sorry about your daughter not getting in. But she has amazing stats! the slogan is turning good students into excellent students and i think that she’s already there.

congrats getting into TASP obstinate =)

Didn’t get in to AP/EA, but got into SSP!

Obstinate and I are in the same boat ;)

hey… i remember this thread! for all who did get in, congrats! for those who did not, do not despair. I was rejected to ap/ea last year (through diversity), yet i was accepted to scs this spring with very few additions to my resume.

congrats! hey, has anyone else received a letter?

i got mine last week monday. 5/4

Has anyone gotten their handbook yet???

^what program did you get accepted to?

no, not yet… i sent off my letter on wednesday and im in GA soo i’ll get it probably on tuesday or something
