Just found out my daughter, who applied for summer, was accepted, but to the summer access program. I guess this has to be done on campus? She was really hoping to start summer online. Does anyone have any insight on the program?
Where is the housing? Do you house with other kids in the access program? Are there specific classes that you have to take or do you choose? Are the classes difficult? Is there chance of failing the program?
You need to call either Undergraduate Admissions (very helpful folks) or the Access Program directly to get ACCURATE info. With UCF’s remote capabilities, I certainly would not assume that Access requires physical attendance on campus.
@JimDadinmia Thank you. Yes. We plan to call Monday morning as we got our acceptance after they closed on Friday. The Access program is different though. The letter does specifically stipulate that with this program the classes must be taken on campus and you also have to attend some other special sessions. Unfortunately this is an added expense we weren’t counting on. My daughter still loves UCF, but she is also considering USF.
Yep, I looked it up and it is indeed a mandatory in-person 6 week program during Summer B.
Access looks like a really good program – one of many dedicated to student success that UCF offers. UCF really has a lot of resources along those lines.
Our daughter took a related course – SLS 1501 which is Strategies for Success and covers a wide range of issues kid run into making the transition to college life. She found it very helpful, and I think your daughter would find Access very helpful as well.
USF is also a good school, and a lot could depend on her major. Our daughter’s BFF is at USF and likes it very much despite roommate issues.
One other possible advantage to the Access Program occurred to me. Staying on campus for Access in the summer might be a path to a good dorm assignment for next year, depending on where they are housed.
It also shouldn’t be terribly expensive for 6 weeks, although you would have the expense of getting her there, food and other living expenses, etc. But still, six weeks expense compared to the expense of 4 years…
